Mike FarnworthThank you to everyone for all your support and encouragement over the last number of months. I can't begin to tell you how deeply I appreciate it. I didn't make this decision lightly, but did so because I believe it's in the best interests of uniting our party and providing our province with a progressive alternative to the BC Liberals. So while today marks the end of my campaign, it begins our campaign to elect BC NDP government in 2017 with John Horgan as Premier, and I'm proud to stand as a member of the team. Team Horgan

Mike FarnworthNDP leadership candidate Mike Farnworth said less protection for farmland will leave the province in a “precarious” situation. “People across the province are embracing locally grown food, and B.C. is uniquely positioned to meet that need,” he said. “But instead of capitalizing on the asset we have in protected farmland, the BC Liberals are determined to destroy it.”

Mike Farnworth"Mike knows that we need mining, and he knows he can have an environmentally responsible mining industry with a social license to operate. Our traditional resource sector cannot operate alone if we are to ensure a healthy, resilient economy. That’s why Mike supports a diverse economy that includes things like tourism, high tech, agriculture and the creative Sector. Mike knows that Rural and Urban BC have different needs but the health of both the rural economy and the health of the urban economy are interdependent." Lana Popham - MLA, Saanich South

Mike Farnworth"Mike and I share a love for growing our own food and we know that without a strong agricultural sector we will be leaving ourselves vulnerable to the problems we will see as climate change affects food-growing regions around the world. We, as New Democrats, brought in this policy 40 years ago, but we know it’s not just a New Democrat value. Mike knows that the Agricultural Land Reserve is valued by people of every political stripe, all across this province, and we will only save what is left by standing together. We will only save what is left, by winning the next election. And Mike Farnworth can do just that." Lana Popham, MLA Saanich South

Mike FarnworthStatement from Mike Farnworth on changes to the ALR March 28, 2014 Victoria, BC – BC NDP leadership candidate Mike Farnworth has released the following statement on Bill 24, the Agricultural Land Commission Amendment Act: "I believe in the tremendous value of the Agricultural Land Reserve, and I will do everything in my power to stand up for the protection of the land that grows our food. Efforts by government, evidenced yesterday by the tabling of Bill 24, the Agricultural Land Commission Amendment Act, to lessen that protection will leave British Columbia in a very precarious position. Without farmland, how will we ensure that we can feed ourselves? People across the province are embracing locally grown food, and BC is uniquely positioned to meet that need. But instead of capitalizing on the asset we have in protected farmland, the BC Liberals are determined to destroy it. This legislation is just one more example of why the BC NDP must choose a leader that can win the next election. If we fail to win in 2017, there will be very little farmland left for us to save."

Mike Farnworth"Mike was one of the initiators in the Fair Share Agreement in the Northeast, so he knows that we have to develop resources responsibly but we also have to ensure that the communities and the people living nearby those resources benefit the most from them"

Mike FarnworthExcited to have the support of MLAs Lana Popham and Doug Donaldson. Lana is a passionate champion of BC's natural environment and agriculture, and Doug is a strong advocate for rural and northern B.C. Together, we are building a BC NDP that is in tune with folks in every part of our province, and can win an election!

Deborah CoyneDeborah Coyne congratulates Justin Trudeau on his election as Liberal Party of Canada leader Ottawa – Deborah Coyne released the following statement today on the election of Justin Trudeau as leader of the Liberal Party of Canada. “I would like to congratulate Justin Trudeau on his election tonight as the next leader of our party. There can be no doubt that Justin has run an impressive campaign that has struck a chord with Canadians. I have spoken about the need to get Canadians off the sidelines, to inspire us to work together in the national interest, for One Canada. Justin has shown not only that he understands this, but also that he can inspire Canadians who have tuned out of the national debate to reengage. This is what the Liberal Party and Canada need. I look forward to working under his leadership as a member of the Liberal team. We are all Liberals. And now we will all come together to build a better Liberal Party, and a better Canada. I look forward to serving Canadians and to seeking a nomination to run in a riding for the next election. And I will continue to be a voice in our party for the principles and vision I have resolutely stood for in this campaign. I would also like to congratulate my fellow candidates for bringing their visions to the table, for a debate of ideas, and a campaign that has enriched our party. To all the Canadians that have joined the Liberal Party as supporters, no matter which candidate you signed up to support, I hope you will remain involved. We need your help to build a new Liberal Party, one that engages Canadians in the challenges facing our country, and one that brings us together to face those challenges. This is the end of the leadership race, but it is just the beginning for the Liberal Party. The hard work is still ahead. I look forward to rolling up my sleeves with our new Liberal team. The road to 2015 begins today.”
