Christy ClarkIt’s great to be home after my second successful trade mission to Asia. Strengthening and expanding our trade with Asia is a key part of our Jobs Plan. Approximately 40 events and meetings with political leaders and large investors resulted in 25 business deals and partnership agreements worth more than half a billion dollars. Attracting investment to our province means jobs for B.C. families and continued growth for B.C. businesses.

Dalton McGuintyBrad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development and Innovation, recently attended the Ontario Centres of Excellence’s Discovery conference - the place to be for start-ups and observers looking to catch an early peek at “the next big thing” happening in Ontario. He shared his experience at the conference with us on BlogON(tario). Today, Ontario is a leader in many sectors, including automotive, clean tech, information technology and life sciences. With the help of Ontario Centres of Excellence and Discovery, we are working together to build an Ontario that can compete and win in the global economy. cc/ Ontario Innovation

Dalton McGuintyAs we celebrate the Victoria Day weekend, and host His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall, we're reminded of Ontario's rich heritage and the bright future we continue to build today. Here's what you need to know: - Despite a challenging global economy and continued uncertainty in Europe, Ontario's economy regained all jobs lost during the recession — including over 120,000 more new jobs last year. - The world has confidence in our economy — we make more cars than anybody else in North America and have the strongest banks in the world, with financial services employing up to 358,000 people. - We have Canada's largest mining sector — with a historic chromite development just announced in Northern Ontario in an area known as the Ring of Fire. - To care for our parents and grandparents and strengthen health care, we're adding three million more hours of home care to help 90,000 more seniors. - Our schools are ranked the best in the English-speaking world — and this year's high-school graduating class will be the first to benefit from our Ontario 30% Off Tuition Grant when they pursue postsecondary education next fall. Ontario Liberals have a plan to bring people together to sustain Ontario's momentum — one that makes the most of the quiet confidence of Ontarians in overcoming any challenge. We're fortunate to have a strong foundation for prosperity and Ontarians are determined to create a future of hope and opportunity for the generations to come.

Dalton McGuintyPremier Dalton McGuinty has written to Canada's Premiers urging them to follow Ontario's lead when it comes to modernizing fees paid to doctors as part of a nationwide health strategy — and the other provinces are following suit. Changes in technology mean that more procedures can be completed in less time, but fees haven't kept pace. To protect the gains made in health care, we need to make the right choices. Here's what you need to know: - Alberta's Health Minister, Fred Horne, said: "I think what the [McGuinty] letter does is it highlights there are some opportunities to look at physician compensation Not only as a way to fairly remunerate doctors, which we want to do, but to also help drive improvements in the health-care system over all." (Globe and Mail, May 16, 2012) - Nova Scotia's Health Minister, Maureen MacDonald, said: "Doctors Nova Scotia asked that we review the fee schedule in Nova Scotia and we are doing that, and we are doing that with their participation It only makes sense that we modernize our fee structure. I think that it is cumbersome, outdated, and it can benefit from being streamlined." (Chronicle Herald, May 15, 2012) - B.C. has also signalled its interest and fees have been frozen in Manitoba for two years already. Manitoba Health Minister, Theresa Oswald, said the province is "ensuring we get good value for the precious resources we invest in health care." (Globe and Mail, May 16, 2012) Only Ontario Liberals include a strong Action Plan for Health Care as part of their plan to strengthen Ontario's economy, while protecting the gains we've made together.

Dalton McGuintyYesterday, Premier McGuinty visited St. Matthew's Bracondale House residents to talk about what personal support workers (PSW) mean to them. He announced we're moving forward on a platform commitment that came from Ontario Liberal members: more home care hours. Here's what you need to know: - We're making the right choice to expand home care by moving forward with a freeze on doctors' compensation so we can invest in the needs of patients. - Over the next three years, Ontario will help 90,000 more seniors get the care they need to live comfortably in their own homes. Ontario is adding three million more hours of PSW care, including one million more hours this year. - PSWs assist people with personal hygiene, do light housework, help with changing dressings and give reminders on how to take medications. - Providing PSWs allows seniors, people with physical disabilities and those with complex needs to live independently at home — where they're most comfortable — rather than in a hospital or long-term care home. - Helping seniors stay at home longer benefits the entire health care system by freeing up hospital beds for those who need acute care, reducing pressure on emergency rooms and saving money. Only Ontario Liberals have a strong Action Plan for Health Care that ensures access to the right care, at the right time, and in the right place.

Dalton McGuintyCheck out the Premier's latest blogpost: This Mother’s Day, I will of course be taking the time to thank my mom. I often say, she is my hero. She’s raised ten kids, plus two dogs. She’s known hardship and loss, and shown our family boundless love and joy. I’ll never know how moms like Terri and my mother manage to pull it all off. But they do. And in my job, it’s my privilege to meet women like them every day. Mothers are doctors who take care of us when we’re sick. They’re teachers who guide and encourage us; lawyers who help us settle our disputes. And mothers are builders who carefully put together the foundations of our future. And so today, I want to thank the mothers in my life, and all the mothers helping to make Ontario a stronger, more caring province for all of us. Happy Mother’s Day.

Dalton McGuintyCheck out the Premier's most recent blogpost: One of the questions I am often asked when I talk to students is “do you play a musical instrument?” The answer is no. My sons do, and they even started a band, but they must have inherited that talent from Terri. Although I don’t often make music — unless singing in the shower counts (Terri says in my case it doesn’t) — I do enjoy listening to it. So I thought I’d share some of my favourites — including seven tracks from Canadian acts (five of which are from Ontario). Hope you enjoy!

Dalton McGuintyWhen Dalton was growing up, his dad started a summer camp for kids who couldn’t otherwise afford to go. He gave each of Dalton's nine brothers and sisters and Dalton a job to do —even if they didn’t know what to do. His advice? “Take a lesson.” That’s how Dalton became a water-ski instructor. Hopefully, everyone has recovered. Those first experiences with responsibility, giving back to your community, and working together in a team have stayed with Dalton. And that’s what we’re hoping to give to kids who take part in Ontario’s Summer Jobs for Youth Program. One of those kids was Tyrone Crawford, who has applied what he learned from our program to reach the top of his game, playing with the NFL. He took what he learned on the job about hard work, dedication and team work to his sport, played college football for Boise State University and now he has become the first Canadian drafted by the NFL in 2012. He’ll be playing for the Dallas Cowboys. Congratulations Tyrone! Ontario is rooting for you.

Dalton McGuintyThe greatest difference we can make for others is saving lives. We often think that’s the job of heroes and exceptional people, but the reality is that each and every one of us has the ability to save up to eight lives — just by signing up online to become an Ontario organ donor. Dalton signed up to be an organ donor years ago. But now it’s easier than ever. Take a look at his Gift of 8 campaign. Help reach our goal of getting 1,000 more Ontarians to sign up. Please, don’t miss this opportunity to give the gift of life.
