Are provinces being shortchanged by Ottawa? Not your most burning question? Understandable. But the short answer is, not by a long shot. Here's the long answer if you have a coffee and 10 min! https://www.fraserinstitute.org/sites/default/files/are-the-provinces-really-shortchanged-by-federal-transfers-rev.pdf

The long, long lines at the Jubilee Auditorium from early this morning at Manmeet Bhullar's memorial stand as a testament to the loss of a great man - a premier in the waiting and a man who challenged himself and us all to be part of our futures by participating. He did that every day. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Prime Minister Harper and the Conservative government understand that protecting our economy, keeping taxes low, maintaining balanced budgets, and supporting small business are the keys to Canada's long-term prosperity. Unfortunately, it is also clear that Justin Trudeau and the Liberals have no understanding of Canada's economy - here are some of the quotes Mr. Trudeau has made on this important subject: "Well, deficits are a way of measuring the kind of growth and the kind of success that a government is actually able to create." (Justin Trudeau, Global News, Sep. 24, 2015) "We have to know that a large percentage of small businesses are actually just ways for wealthier Canadians to save on their taxes..." (Justin Trudeau, CBC News, Sep. 9, 2015) "...we can grow the economy not from the top down the way Mr. Harper wants to, but from the heart outwards." (Justin Trudeau, Canadian Press, Aug. 12, 2015) Even more disturbing is what Mr. Trudeau has said about Alberta. When asked about what he thought of Canada having a Prime Minister from Alberta, Mr. Trudeau said this: "Canada isn't doing well right now because it's Albertans who control our community and socio-democratic agenda. It just doesn't work." (Justin Trudeau, Les Franc-Tireurs, Nov. 24, 2010) Maybe he thought that because he said it in French to a Quebec news outlet that Albertans wouldn't notice that he stated - unequivocally - that Mr. Trudeau doesn't believe Albertans should govern our country. As Alberta grapples with tough economic times, we need a Prime Minister that's completely focused on protecting our economy and creating jobs - and the only leader who has made protecting our economy their top priority is Prime Minister Stephen Harper. On Election Day - Monday October 19th - please make sure that you cast your ballot for a candidate, a party, and a leader that will focus on creating jobs, keeping taxes low, our budget balanced, and who will continue to protect our economy.

THE HARPERS ON ET Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Laureen are hitting the campaign trail hard in advance of next week’s election, but they took time out to sit down with ET Canada’s Sangita Patel for an expansive interview that ranged from talk of politics and the Canadian economy to their favourite TV show and whether the PM or his wife is better at taking a selfie. "We’re feeling great, you know, we’ve been all around the country, meeting Canadians," says the Prime Minister of campaigning throughout Canada. "It’s really inspiring to see — there’s so many people out there who are working hard for our cause and these are people who don’t expect anything in return. They’re just doing it because they believe in the country, they believe in the cause, and you meet them all over the country — and it’s really inspiring." Asked how she's coping as election day looms, Monday, October 19, Laureen Harper quips, "Lots of coffee!" The PM says travelling throughout Canada has given him an appreciation for the country's diversity. “Look, I love running the government, I like making difficult decisions," he says. "But seeing the country, going everywhere in the country and meeting the people. I’ve been to the most northern point in Alert [Nunavut], I’ve been the most south, east, west – I’ve been everywhere in between. I’ve met Canadians of all different backgrounds and stories. And between going around our country and then going to other countries, you really get an appreciation of what a special place this is and how privileged we are to be citizens here." Harper once famously guest starred on Murdoch Mysteries, and when Sangita asks if there’s a show he’d like to guest on now, he admits he doesn't watch a lot of TV — but confirms that Murdoch, Elementary and Veep are favourites, adding that the whole family gathers to watch Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Emmy-winning political comedy and joke that it's like watching their own reality. If the Harpers return to 24 Sussex Drive after all the votes are counted, Harper is in for an exceptionally busy few months. "We’ll have a lot of work, one way or the other following [the election]," he says. "So it’d be a while, it’ll be until Christmas until we get much of a break. So we’ll be keeping busy." You can catch Sangita’s full interview with the Harpers on tonight's show on Global.

JUSTIN TRUDEAU’S REAL PLAN FOR CANADA’S MIDDLE CLASS - For those that don't remember the NEP and the damage Trudeau Sr did to Alberta - this is a must read if you're even thinking about voting Liberal: Prime Minister Stephen Harper today warned that Justin Trudeau’s high-taxes, high spending and permanent deficits would lead to job losses and economic pain for Canadian families. “Justin Trudeau is promising to cancel income-splitting, claw back Tax-Free Savings Accounts and impose a $1,000 payroll tax hike on the typical Canadian worker,” said Prime Minister Harper. “Make no mistake, Liberal tax hikes will take thousands of dollars out of the pockets and bank accounts of Canadian families.” During the election campaign, Justin has promised to: - Introduce carbon taxes that will increase the price of everything – from groceries to home heating to transportation to prescription medicines. - Increase taxes on Canadian small businesses, since Justin Trudeau thinks “a large percentage” of small businesses are just a way for the wealthy to avoid taxes. - Impose new CPP payroll taxes that will hurt the middle class. For someone earning $60,000 per year, the Liberal tax hike will cut their take-home pay by more than $1,000 per year and will cost their employer another $1,000. - Increase EI premiums for workers and employers by more than $2 billion. This will cost average Canadian families hundreds of dollars each and every year. - Cancel income splitting that benefits millions of families and seniors and provides up to $2,000 in tax relief. - Cancel the Conservative government’s Universal Child Care Benefit cheques that benefit all families by $1,920 per child under 6 and $720 per child aged 6-17. - Claw back the expanded Tax-Free Savings Accounts that benefit 11 million Canadians. - Create a new 33% marginal tax rate for high income earners. - Cancel the education tax credit that provides average tax relief of $480 to each postsecondary student, and the textbook tax credit. - End other tax credits that are helping families and seniors, such as the children’s fitness tax credit worth up to $1,000, or the Home Accessibility Tax Credit for seniors worth up to $1,500. - and Justin Trudeau will not even come out in support of the Energy East pipeline to use Alberta and Saskatchewan oil in Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes instead of foreign oil. Trudeau himself has admitted that all of the money he will take from Canadians still won’t be enough to pay for his unaffordable promises. So, in addition to raising taxes now, he will run large, long-term deficits. The only way to pay off that federal debt will be to raise taxes or cut benefits even more in the future – or pass it along to our children and grandchildren. That’s no way to run a household, let alone a country.
