On this Passover holiday, the Jewish community commemorates its exodus from slavery in Egypt and their journey towards freedom. I would like to extend my sincerest wishes for a happy and meaningful holiday to those celebrating here in Canada and across the globe. Chag Sameach! !?? ??? ???

What would I do to promote INNOVATION/PRODUCTIVITY? - Organize our research and development sector in order to correspond to future demand by identifying key future markets. - Streamlining the patent review process and creating a specialized patent court in order to further accelerate the process. - Offer incentives for companies to invest in research and development in order to further boost productivity, innovation and imagination. - Invest in improving our infrastructure to minimize the loss of productivity due to gridlock and poor infrastructure. (Current loss of productivity estimated at over 10 Billion dollars annually)

What would I do on .....STRUCTURAL UNEMPLOYMENT? - Broaden and facilitate the transferability of foreign credentials; - Improve our integration system particularly with respect to our language skills training as opposed to the narrowing of immigration flow seen under the current government; - Increase funding for career information, job placement and support programs; - Designate a parliamentary secretary under the Labor minister responsible for youth employment.

Through Liberal 2.0 I would rebuild the party so that it would become modern, accessible, and connected, keeping Canadians in the loop and letting them define our priorities. We do not have a monopoly on good ideas. Therefore, I propose to create the Pearson Research Institute and finally have a Liberal think tank to advise us on policy.

We need Peacekeepers who can establish areas on the edges of warzones to securely house civilians and refugees who are at risk. We need to guarantee the safety of relief and humanitarian workers. We need to devote enough resources and enough armed personnel to engage in meaningful ways, such that we can not only hold our ground if situations turn explosive, but such that we can adapt and respond.

We are a country made up of countless different cultures, creeds, and former homelands, and the issues & conflicts taking place in other countries undoubtedly affect large parts of our multicultural population, on a deeply personal level. With all the violence and the strife that has been occurring over the past few years, we've fallen behind. It seems as though our current government has not considered Peacekeeping to be of much use to Canada. In the 1990s, we accounted for ten percent of all Peacekeepers worldwide. Now we're not even one of the top fifty contributors.

It may be a bitter pill to swallow, but having the courage and the will to facilitate a national, universal Pharmacare plan with cooperation from the provinces will not only make prescription drugs for Canadians more affordable, it will allow the Canadian government to better provide services for its citizens.

Educating citizens on nutrition and promoting active lifestyles can ease our healthcare burdens by treating the causes of poor health instead of just the symptoms. The government can support these programs and bring them to the next level, such that they can set goals, examine if the goals are being met, and then bridge them together so that they can expand across the country.

"In an increasingly interconnected, globalized world, we can no longer simply look at issues or conflict outside of our borders and say that they don’t affect us, and therefore that we have no interest or stake in working toward their peaceful resolution. We witness human rights atrocities taking place on the evening news; we hear of famine and drought ravaging countries on the other side of the planet; of civil wars threatening to tear apart the fabric that ties a state and its people together.” A copy of the speech can be found by clicking http://davidbertschi.ca/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Foreign-Policy-Speech1.pdf

We need to promote a shift towards primary care across the board, empowering medical professionals who aren't confined to the walls of a hospital. With the proper support and infrastructure, these practitioners and specialists can provide focused, efficient, sustainable care, meeting the needs of their patients faster, and alleviating the financial strain on our hospitals.

Some of the biggest challenges to our healthcare system are structural. Our hospitals are over-burdened, struggling to accommodate patients whose care could be delivered more efficiently - and more COST effectively - in the offices of general practitioners, multidisciplinary teams, and specialists.

We have the capacity, we have the technology, we have the brain power. I think we can compete with anyone in the world, but we have to be there and stand up when other countries are erecting barriers to our trade products. I’d rather build it, do it here and ship it overseas or to the States, with more jobs in Canada then giving them all the jobs.

For the party, it’s about empowering local riding associations and rebuilding it with a strict adherence and listening model, where fundraising is kept local, and monies are used to help the riding associations connect with all of the community. From the country perspective, we have to look at a number of huge challenges which relate to employment. There are a lot of people who are unemployed and underemployed across the country. Government has to be more efficient and responsive to the needs of the public, we have to save our health care, and we have to have a greater role in the world. I call it re-establishing the Canadian advantage!

In a time when it’s more expensive than ever for a young person to attend post-secondary studies, you believe in a Canada where our children and grandchildren can get a quality education without the burden of unprecedented debt. In a country where we have more and more new Canadians and yet the Conservatives keep adding hurdle after hurdle to family reunification, you believe, like me that we can help these families. And in a country where half of our population is women, we have a Harper government that has cut funding to over 42 women’s groups. His back-bench is fighting like mad against the straitjacket of control he's placed on the party, and are trying to have out of touch men tell women what to do with their own bodies. If you, like me, believe that our grand-mothers, mothers, sisters and daughters deserve better... then today I ask you for your support so we can begin restoring the Canadian Advantage. I am David Bertschi and I want to be your next leader!
