It was humbling last night to participate in the recognition of some amazing members of our community and their outstanding contributions in the world of sports. Port Moody now has its own permanent sports memorabilia display that is currently celebrating Olympic skating medalist Tracy Wilson, NHL player Ryan Johansen, soccer pioneer Bob Favelle, lacrosse champion Jamie Constable and the 2002 Port Moody Secondary Cheer Team.

While we might get a laugh out of this, taking time away from 911 operators to deal with non-emergency issues takes them away from dealing with the real emergencies and people who need help.

It was great to drive around College Park and see the amazing display of holiday lights! Kudos to McMaster Court that had 100% neighbour participation, Simon Fraser Court that had a number of big displays and McGill Drive that obviously had some friendly competition going on!

So I had a chat with Santa at the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce luncheon last week and we negotiated a place for me on his "nice" list. Whew!

It's very much an honour to have been elected to another term of Port Moody office! Thank you voters! Admittedly it was the toughest campaign I have been a part of. Looking forward to the next 4 years with some new colleagues at the table!

Did you know that in the Port Moody civic election in 1996, a candidate topped the polls by 1 vote? And in that same election, a councilor got elected by only 2 votes over the next candidate who didn't? In the 2002 election, the sixth-place council seat winner won by 4 votes. Truly every vote matters....please be a voter in 2014!

I made a very conscious decision to not jump into a public Facebook debate currently taking place between City employees (firefighters), members of the public and other members of Council. But I also feel very strongly that when truth is being misrepresented, it needs to be called out. On November 12th at 11:12pm, Councillor Zoe Royer posted to the Port Moody Firefighters FB page what she purported to be an original email that she sent to City Manager and Council on April 3rd at 12:00pm (titled "Letter from Cllr Royer to City Manager and Council) . Attached is that post for reference. Also attached is the actual email that she DID send (subsequently found on a later email thread). Please note the original email does not anywhere indicate that it was sent to Council, and it wasn't, as she has stated in her FB post. It is one thing to be passionate about one's views and I respect that. What I can't respect is presenting an email that you claim was sent to council when it wasn't.

So there are 35 hours left until the polls close tomorrow night. For those that haven't voted in Port Moody, I would strongly encourage you to read the brochures that have been delivered to your house and call candidates on the phone. You can also find out more online. On YouTube you can find videos prepared for The TriCity News and SHAW TV. TriCityVotes.com is a one-stop show for candidate profiles, and links to their social media sites. Learn more about the candidates and make an informed choice for who is going to work for you for the next four years!!

In addition to hosting a Mayoralty Debate, SHAW TV also allowed candidates to prepare a 2-minute video for airing on local television, channel 4. It's interesting perspectives from the 8 of 14 candidates that participated in the program. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpr-u7aXWZI&list=UUFpb61-IXuSE7mBLFL3reTg&index=32

Once again, The V3H is hosting "TriCityVotes.com" a site that allows candidates to share their profile and residents to learn more about those that have put their names forward for election. A one-stop shop, TriCityVotes.com allows for tri-city candidates photos, videos and links to social media sites. They even allow you to set up a personal "cheat sheet" to keep track of your favourite candidates. http://www.tricityvotes.com/candidates/diana-dilworth/

Last night at the Port Moody Art Association's 47th Annual Show, on behalf of Council, Gerry Nuttall and I unveiled two pieces art that we purchased for the City of Port Moody. Local artists Jack Prasad and Ulla Supelov were on hand and shared their passion for what they do!

You may not like lawn signs, but they let your neighbours know you are engaged and that you will be voting in the civic election. They help promote the fact that I am running and that you support me. As we move into the last week, all the candidates are putting a final push in their campaigns, myself included. If you are comfortable taking a sign, please just let me know and it will be dropped later today and will be removed next Sunday, the day after the election! And if you aren't available to vote on November 15th, there is still one advance voting opportunity tomorrow, Saturday, November 8th at Port Moody City Hall. Thank you for your past support, it means a lot to me! And please, BE A VOTER!

The Chamber All-Candidates Debate (and yes there was some debating) is now up on YouTube for viewing. Great information for voters seeking further clarity on where the candidates stand on some of the issues. And please let Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce know if you liked their new format. The debate is shown in 4 different parts....here's Part I.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YP90ZPm7-Kk

There have now been two all-candidate meetings in Port Moody with two more scheduled: Friday at Douglas College and next Wednesday at Old Orchard Hall. These meetings are great opportunities for you to hear prepared statements by candidates and how they will respond to questions posed by the audience. But I think the best way to understand who your candidates and how they will represent you is to meet them in person, or over the phone and ask the questions that are important to you. Ask a candidate to come to your house or give you a phone call. We would appreciate the opportunity to connect with you personally :)

Today is the first opportunity for Port Moody residents to vote. On doorsteps, I have met a number of people that will be voting for the first time and I wanted to give a special shout-out to them today! Many residents may not beware that in previous Port Moody elections, the difference between getting elected or not has come down to 2 or 4 votes. Every vote really does make a difference!

One of the best things about door-knocking on a wet weekend is that people are home, bunkered in with fireplaces on! This gave me the opportunity to chat with a large number of our residents about what they love about Port Moody and about any concerns they have. Many of them mentioned that they would be coming to the all-candidates meeting tonight....maybe you will be there too? http://business.tricitieschamber.com/events/details/all-candidates-meeting-port-moody-605
