More than 50 years on and this speech still inspires. Incredibly, the dream part of the speech was not in his text. Just prior to taking the podium his closest confidantes urged him to share it with the crowd. The news coverage from the days that followed did not include this part of the speech. No notes, no telepromter. Simply the passion and vision of a great man who went to jail, whose home and church were fire-bombed, whose children and wife were threatened and who eventually was killed because he preached equality for all through peaceful and non-violent means. Today, all of us, not just Americans, should commemorate what would have been his 86th birthday. Moreover, each of us should strive in everything we do to make that dream a reality.
