One of the most rewarding parts of my job at Sudbury's MPP is seeing the effects of local investment on the lives of people in our community. In the 2016 Budget, our Government reaffirmed our commitment to Building Ontario Up by bolstering investment in much-needed infrastructure throughout the Province. In Sudbury, these investments have allowed us to break ground on projects like the Maley Drive extension and 4-laning Highway 69, both of which will improve safety and convenience for drivers in Sudbury. Beyond our roads, our Government is investing in education and healthcare, with plans for building new schools and educational programs, as well as the exciting commitment to providing operational funding for a PET scanner at Health Sciences North. In order to create jobs and build the economy, our Government is also investing in research and innovation, particularly related to mining, as well as small business, and the growing and successful film industry in Sudbury. I am proud of the work our Government is doing to Build Ontario Up, and will continue to do all I can in the community and at Queen's Park to keep building in Sudbury.Apr 25, 2016 2:12 pm | Ontario, Marguerite-Bourgeoysndp

Yesterday, in the midst of an April snowstorm, Sunny Ways came to Sudbury. I was incredibly proud and humbled to join Mayor Brian Bigger, the City of Greater Sudbury Council, and MPs Paul Lefebvre and Marc Serré in welcoming Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Sudbury for a round table discussion and important announcement. Prime Minister Trudeau announced that the Federal Government will match Ontario's commitment of up to $26.7 million to extend Maley Drive. Together, the Governments of Ontario and Canada will be investing over $50 million in the project. It is truly fantastic what we can achieve when all levels of Government work together to make life better for those in our communities. I'm sure I am not along in saying that I cannot wait to see shovels in the ground!Apr 08, 2016 11:45 am | Ontario, Marguerite-Bourgeoysndp
Today is an important day for First Responders in Ontario, and one I sincerely wish I could have been present at Queen's Park for (Unfortunately, not fully recovered from my knee surgery, but soon!). After a unanimous vote, the Ontario legislature passed a new law to support first responders with PTSD by creating a presumption that post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) diagnosed in first responders is work-related. This act, which will allow for faster access to WSIB benefits, is part of the province's strategy to prevent or mitigate the risk of PTSD and provide first responders with faster access to treatment and the information they need to stay healthy. When everyone else runs out, our first responders run in. Thank you to all our Sudbury and Ontario first responders, and to all who worked on making this legislation happen.Apr 05, 2016 1:29 pm | Ontario, Marguerite-Bourgeoys

We also acknowledge that, whether it's closing the wage gap, doing more to prevent domestic, sexual, and other violence against women, or ensuring women are represented in government and on the boards of public companies, that there's more work to be done to ensure we live in the equitable society I want to see for my wife, my daughters, and all women around the world. #IWD2016Mar 08, 2016 7:27 am | Ontario, Marguerite-Bourgeoysndp
While there are many things I'm proud of in our government's most recent budget, I'm very happy that, as part of our Business Growth Initiative, we're providing $20 million to help colleges and small and medium-sized businesses become partners in applied research. Cambrian College and Collège Boréal are both incredible colleges with some of the best facilities for research and learning in the province. A couple of weeks ago, I got to show Hon. Reza Moridi around Cambrian College and NORCAT, and students and staff demonstrated all of the cool stuff they were working on there. I was incredibly impressed by the projects I saw and the staff and students I spoke to, and I am very excited about the opportunities these new technologies will provide in terms of our economy. I am very hopeful that this additional funding will provide additional opportunities to spur innovation here in Sudbury. Minister Moridi also went to Laurentian to attend the Laurentian Mining Innovation and Technology Launch. I'm very glad that we're training the future leaders and innovators in the mining sector and capitalizing on the #SudburyAdvantage our world-class facilities and post-secondary institutions provide.Mar 04, 2016 10:36 am | Ontario, Marguerite-Bourgeoys

I was very pleased this morning to announce, alongside Mayor Bigger, that the Government of Ontario will be funding a $2.3 million study into Sudbury's watersheds. Water's obviously very important to our lives, both for hygiene and for sustenance, but in Sudbury, it's also incredibly important for our recreation, our tourism, and our overall quality of life. There are 330 lakes in the City of Greater Sudbury within 25 watersheds that drain into Lake Huron. This funding will allow the city to complete nine watershed studies over two years. All Sudburians, just as everyone else around the world, deserve access to clean water - and, in particular, I was floored by the number of cases of blue-green algae found in the Sudbury area over the past year. I'm hopeful that this funding will help all levels of government develop best management practices to reduce erosion, prevent flooding and maintain or improve water quality, produce a strategy for preserving or enhancing the natural environment, and establish a framework for responsible urban growth within the watersheds. This funding is the next step in Sudbury's world-class regreening efforts, and I'm very happy to have brought this funding to Sudbury.Feb 29, 2016 12:25 pm | Ontario, Marguerite-Bourgeoysndp

Nothing like starting off the week great news for Sudbury, and the Northeast! Today, I had the great pleasure to announce that the contract has been awarded for the next phase of 4-laning Highway 69! Under the single largest contract ever awarded by the Ministry of Transportation, work will begin this winter on a 14 km stretch from just North of Highway 607 to just north of Highway 522. In addition to the four-laning, 2 new interchanges and 10 new bridges will be built, including 4 structures over the Pickerel and French Rivers. I look forward seeing this work move forward - every section of 4-laning completed on Highway 69 means safer travel for all in the Northeast.Jan 25, 2016 12:20 pm | Ontario, Marguerite-Bourgeoysndp

Today, I had the honour and the privilege of standing alongside Minister of Health, Eric Hoskins, to announce that Ontario will be investing in a permanent PET scanner for Sudbury. I want to thank Minister Hoskins for his support, and for his dedication to ensuring that Ontarians in the Northeast have access to the best care possible. I also want to thank Health Sciences North, Dr. Roy and the staff that made the announcement possible, and the LHIN for all their work. However, above all, this day belongs to the community members who have championed this cause over years. Thank you to Frank and Cheryl Bruno, and all the members of the Bruno family, for ensuring that Sam Bruno's legacy continues. Thank you also to the Sam Bruno PET Committee, the Northern Cancer foundation, and everyone in our community who has rallied behind this cause.
