Tomorrow is election day people — Make sure you GET OUT AND VOTE! Gordon Earle needs YOUR support to take this seat from the Harper Conservatives. Gordon lost by a little over 4 votes per poll in the 2008 election. Let's make history this year and send the first New Democratic MP from the South Shore to Ottawa. This can happen — but only if YOU get out and cast your ballot.

Gordon Earle get's a great response from the crowd here at the local all candidates debate, on the topic of the ferry cut. To clarify: That cut took place under Paul Martin's Liberal government. Liberal candidate, Derek Wells has been trying to use this against Darrel Dexter, and thus, against Gordon Earle. A great clarification and a great round of applause for Earle!

First question at tonight's debate: "As MP for South Shore, what would be your immediate priority to improve the lives of the people in your constituency? And, would that priority change depending on whether you were sitting on the opposition or government side out the house"?

The polls say we're still strong ahead of the Liberal candidate!! But we need YOUR vote on May 2nd, to not split the vote, but rather to join forces and push ahead of the Conservatives. Together, let's vote out Harper's representative in South Shore—St. margaret's. On May 2nd, vote Gordon Earle and the New Democrats!

Gordon Earle says: “We need to return, once again, to our federal government working WITH the provinces to help in housing situations. Build housing - sustainable housing and retro fit housing. This would would create jobs and reduce green house gasses at the same time.”

The NDP have been advocating for a national housing strategy for a long time. When Gordon Earle was Deputy Minister of housing, he was involved with housing programs that worked - WHEN they had resources! The federal government HAD been working with provinces, but that’s no longer happening thanks to past Conservative and Liberal governments.

Canada does not have an affordable housing strategy. The NDP would support a national housing strategy for ALL in need, including parents with large families and those with disabilities. It would also include emergency shelters in times of disaster.

Another question on the topic of "quality public services." Canadians need these services, especially during tough economic times. With the Harper government, cutting taxes, will just erode public services, which in turn, takes money BACK out of Canadians pockets. We need to improve public service legislation and create real, long term public services jobs, over temporary service positions.

Only 25 % of Canadians will retire with enough retirement savings to be able to live above the poverty line. The NDP will work with the provincial governments to increase pensions for our seniors. The NDP goal = double what seniors receive!

Steven Harper HAD been talking about beefing up the pension system. But now he's switched to talking straight RRSPs. "RRSP's as a retirement plan" is just another form of privatization that 75% of Canadian seniors can't afford.
