Vancouver Province Endorses Harper & Conservatives "Harper still best choice for PM" Editorial The political opponents of Pr ime Minister Stephen Harper and his Conservative Party of Canada can detail, ad nauseam, reasons the Tories need to go. These include everything from feeble and disinterested efforts to seriously deal with climate change, to the general secretiveness of the Harper government and the strict control of information. Yet, despite the claims of the anti-Tory, anti-Harper legion, the editorial board of The Province believes voters should still elect the Conservatives on Monday. Why? One simple reason: the economy. Of the three main parties in the 2015 federal election campaign, only the Tories are taking a responsible view on growing the economy and controlling public spending and taxation. NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair would damage Canada‘s economy if he were allowed to assume power and delivered the billions of dollars in new public-sector programs he has promised. His plans to vastly increase the size and cost of government to take over matters now better suited to individuals and the private sector, such as his proposed unaffordable national daycare program, shows that the NDP still has no appreciation for the folly of costly government intervention. Moreover, his vows to kill job-creating resource projects, his naive view that he will renegotiate the wealthgenerating Trans-Pacific Partnership and overall social democratic belief that government should have a larger role in managing the economy will hurt Canadians by slowing our shared prosperity. And how can anyone vote for the Liberals and Justin Trudeau, with his absurd plan to run deficits? Not even the NDP thinks that’s a good idea. Under Trudeau, the Liberals seem to have forgotten the economic damage of deficit spending - longterm debt, rising interest rates and the risk of inflation, the real wealth killer. The Liberal Party of Canada once understood this. Trudeau irresponsibly is prepared to risk the economy to buy votes with his promises, including his juvenile class-warfare attacks on the rich by limiting the popular taxfree savings accounts and plan to hike the already high income taxes on the wealthy, who more than pay their share. It’s also not clear how killing income-splitting and adding a carbon tax will help the middle-class citizens he claims to champion. What will Trudeau not do or say for a vote? Clearly, as the Tory television ad says, Harper isn’t perfect. But given what is on offer, he is still the best choice. Despite his reluctant yet wise decision to run deficits during the recent recession to prop up the economy - which brought Canada through those tough times better than other nations - Harper will control government spending. He will work to ensure that average Canadians - the regular people who go to work every day, pay their taxes and take responsibility for their own well-being - are given the best chance to get ahead. Stephen Harper is the real champion of regular Canadians.

Thank You June 19, 2015 Balancing family responsibilities while in public life is always a challenge. This is particularly true when you have a child with special needs. Recently my wife and I received some difficult news about the health of our beautiful son Spencer. While I have every confidence that Prime Minister Harper and our Conservative Government will be re-elected, and I wish I could be part of the next Conservative Government, after 5 terms and 15 years in public life, and with health challenges in my family, I have concluded it is impossible for me to seek another term in office. I will finish this term as Member of Parliament for Port Moody-Westwood-Port Coquitlam, then I will be going home to British Columbia to pursue new opportunities and be closer to my young family. The opportunity to serve as a Member of Parliament is a privilege that I have never taken for granted. I have cherished every moment of this incredible experience to serve my constituents and my country. I am immensely proud of what our Government has achieved under the leadership of Prime Minister Harper, and there is no doubt that Canada is stronger, more united, and more prosperous than ever because of his leadership. I want to thank the Prime Minister for his friendship and support when I have needed it most. The opportunity to serve in his cabinet for the past 7 years as Minister of Industry and Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages and the 2010 Olympics has been the experience and privilege of a lifetime. I will always be grateful for the opportunity, and so very proud of our accomplishments. To my constituents, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the opportunity to serve as your Member of Parliament through 5 mandates. I have never forgotten where home is, and that serving my constituents is what matters most. To my staff who have served selflessly and tirelessly over the years, I thank you. Be proud of the things we have accomplished for Canada and never doubt for a moment that Canada is a better place because of your efforts and contributions. To my amazing and loving family, thank you for your support, patience and understanding over all these years. I simply could not have survived in public life without your love and I am so lucky for the gift of you in my life. After 15 rewarding years, I am looking forward to the next chapter of my life. Hon. James Moore, PC, MP Minister of Industry BC Regional Minister Port Moody-Westwood-Port Coquitlam

Our thoughts continue to be with Darcie Clarke and her family after receiving this devastating news, and we continue to be disappointed with this insulting decision by the BC Review Board. Our Government has taken action to put the interests of victims ahead of criminals by creating a high-risk offender status for violent individuals who are found to be not criminally responsible. Should the family pursue legal action to have this status applied to Mr. Schoenborn, we will support them through any means necessary. www.4darcie.ca

Strong fiscal management under Prime Minister Harper has lead to this: For the first time, debt held by other levels of government is greater than federal government debt.

Canada adds 58,900 jobs in May, best increase in 7 months Canada added six times as many jobs in May as economists predicted on gains in private-sector, manufacturing and health-care work. Employment rose by 58,900, Statistics Canada said Friday in Ottawa, compared with a median prediction in a Bloomberg News survey for an increase of 10,000 positions. The May jobs gain exceeded all 21 forecasts. The unemployment rate was unchanged for a fourth month at 6.8 percent as more people entered the workforce. Canada jobs data indicate average hourly wages in May rose 3.1% on annual basis, or fastest advance since October 2012. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-06-05/canada-may-jobs-gain-shatters-forecasts-on-private-sector-rise

Mr. Speaker, Canada has an extraordinarily proud history in space, and the future is even brighter. In this year's budget, we are supporting Canada's full participation in the European Space Agency, the James Webb space telescope and the Thirty Meter Telescope. Today I was very proud to announce that Canada will be extending our full participation in the International Space Station through 2024. As a result of that, building on the legacy of success of Colonel Chris Hadfield as commander of the International Space Station, Canada will be sending two more astronauts to space: Lieutenant-Colonel Jeremy Hansen and Dr. David Saint-Jacques, who are with us today in Ottawa. We wish them all the best as they go to space.
