Today on the anniversary of the terrorist attack in Ottawa we pay tribute to Corporal Nathan Cirillo, as well as Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent. We will never forget these two brave soldiers and their commitment to serving our country. I send my thoughts and prayers to both of their families, friends, and colleagues.

Before the polls close tonight I would like to take the time to thank my family, friends, supporters and volunteers for all of their hard work during this election. I am extremely proud of #TeamFantino and the ethical way in which our campaign has been run. I am truly humbled by all of the love and support that I have received throughout the campaign. It is now up to the residents in #Vaughan-#Woodbridge to decide who they would like to represent them. A vote for me is a vote for continued low taxes, safe streets and a strong local economy. It is truly an honour to be a longstanding member of our community, and I am very proud that I have been able to deliver results for our families, seniors and small businesses. I hope to continue to represent the hardworking people of #Vaughan-#Woodbridge.

Our campaign continues to experience extensive vandalism to our signs. We have received multiple calls to our campaign office where residents have noted that the "red signs" remain intact and that this is cause for concern in our community. We call on all of the other local campaigns to denounce this petty and desperate behavior and support our position that campaigns should be conducted in a way that represents the seriousness of the democratic process, and the values of our hard working, law abiding community. I want to say thank you to the great volunteers and supporters of #TeamFantino for your professional and respectful conduct throughout this campaign. Go Team!

The Trudeau-Wynne approach of high-taxes, high spending and permanent deficits will lead to a higher cost of living and would take money and benefits away from the seniors in #Vaughan who have worked hard throughout their lives, putting their families and our community first. Our seniors deserve our support, not tax hikes, which is why I am appalled that the Liberals want to claw back Tax-Free Savings Accounts and cut the benefits our seniors have come to rely on, such as pension income splitting and the Home Accessibility Tax Credit. The Liberal’s plan to cancel income splitting will mean less money in the pockets of thousands of seniors and families in our community. The Liberals have promised to hike taxes on every single worker and employer, and introduce an expensive carbon tax that will increase the price of prescription medication, groceries, heating and more. The Liberals don't care that our seniors, families and local businesses’ priorities are low taxes and jobs, not the legalization of marijuana and drug injections sites in our community.

Electing a Liberal Government on October 19th will have lasting consequences for our economy - resulting in job losses, tax hikes and permanent deficits. There is only one choice for lower taxes, more jobs, and support for families and seniors in #Vaughan #Woodbridge-our Conservative Party.

This election isn’t a popularity contest, your vote on October 19th has real consequences for your job, household budget and our economy. Electing a Liberal Government will have lasting consequences for our economy - resulting in job losses, tax hikes on #Vaughan families and seniors, and permanent deficits. With over forty years living in our community, and in an era of economic uncertainty, I know that only a vote for the Conservative Party will protect your wallet, your retirement savings and your job. Our Conservative low-tax, balanced budget plan will protect the economy, keep taxes low, and continue economic progress for Canadians by: • Maintaining the 2015 enhancement to Tax-Free Savings Accounts that allows annual contributions of up to $10,000. • A 20 percent reduction in EI premiums that will benefit over 16 million Canadians and their employers. • A new $2,000 Single Seniors Tax Credit for single and widowed seniors. • Helping more Canadians own their own homes through expanding the Home Buyers’ Plan from $25,000 to $35,000 so that first-time home buyers can withdraw savings tax-free to make their down payments. • Implementing the new Home Accessibility Tax Credit which provides up to $1,500 to seniors and disabled Canadians to keep their homes safe and secure. • Establishing a new permanent Home Renovation Tax Credit for home renovation expenses between $1,000 and $5,000. • “Tax lock” legislation to prohibit increases to personal or business income tax rates, the GST, and discretionary payroll tax increases for the next four years. • Opening new markets for Canadian businesses and workers through international trade and the Trans-Pacific Partnership, creating more and better jobs. • Cutting taxes on small businesses from 11 to 9 percent – the largest tax cut in half a century. • New and expanded maternity and parental leave benefits for new parents.

Thanks to Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his family for joining my family and I today on Thanksgiving weekend at the #Woodbridge Fair. We heard fantastic feedback from many families and seniors about how our Conservative Party’s measures have helped them to save more money and keep more of their hard earned dollars in their pockets through income splitting, the Universal Child Care Benefit, the Tax Free Savings account and more. It is shameful that the Liberal Party will cancel these benefits and raise taxes on our hard working residents, making life harder and more expensive; all while legalizing marijuana and bringing drug injection sites into our community. Only our Conservative Party will continue to keep taxes low, streets safe, and illicit drugs out of our community. It was great to see so many people from our community come together to enjoy such a wonderful event and a Woodbridge tradition. Congratulations to the organizers and volunteers who did such an amazing job and thanks to everyone who brought an item to our booth to donate to the Vaughan Food Bank. I want to wish a very Happy Thanksgiving to the residents in our community and hope that you are surrounded by friends and family!

Over the past two weeks, hundreds of Julian Fantino signs have been stolen and vandalized (while Liberal signs on the same streets have remained untouched). Many of our supporters have contacted our campaign office complaining about such actions. In fact one supporter took the time to look back at their home security system to catch the culprit in action (see video below). Obviously from this video you can see this is a deliberate and organized operation targeting Julian Fantino supporters while leaving Liberal signs untouched. We call on all campaigns, especially our Liberal opponent, to denounce such desperate and negative tactics. If your sign has also gone missing please contact our campaign office at 1 855 FANTINO and we will replace as soon as possible. Toronto Sun YRMG - York Region news

Kathleen Wynne was in #Vaughan today to promote Justin Trudeau's plan to ruin our local economy, raise taxes, and kill jobs through cancelling income splitting, clawing back the contribution limit to the Tax Free Savings Account, and bringing in an expensive carbon tax. This is on top of the massive pay-roll tax hike they want to impose on every single worker and every single business in our community. This represents an additional $1,000 reduction on the paycheck of every worker and will kill jobs and take money directly out of the pockets of the hard working residents in our community. The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) concluded that "If implemented, the ORPP (Ontario Retirement Pension Plan) would force 70 per cent of small businesses to freeze or cut staff salaries, and about half to reduce positions." We need to say NO to the Wynne-Trudeau high-tax, permanent deficit plan that will hurt families and destabilize our fragile economy.

As a parent and grandparent, I know that having a child is the most exciting time in one’s life. It can be challenging, however, and so I am extremely pleased that a re-elected Conservative government will do even more for the moms and dads in #Woodbridge during this momentous time in their lives. Our Conservative party will provide up to 18 months of job protection for new parents and the option to stretch Employment Insurance (EI) benefits over 18 months, and women receiving maternity benefits and parents receiving parental benefits will be able to earn additional employment and self-employment income while receiving EI benefits. Our local economy’s prosperity depends on small businesses who benefit from our party’s low tax plan, and today’s announcement will allow new parents who are interested in starting a new business in Woodbridge to do so. The Liberal party wants to hike payroll taxes on every single worker and every single business owner by increasing EI payroll taxes by $2.2 billion in order to pay for their promises. We want to help local businesses and today’s announcement is great news for new moms and dads, and great news for our local economy.

It was a pleasure to host over 300 seniors from our community for a Spaghettata at the Veneto Centre yesterday. Our seniors enjoyed great food and entertainment, while providing me with very positive feedback on what we have done to improve their quality of life in #Woodbridge and keep their taxes low. I have done this through efforts like ensuring that the community centres they enjoy are well maintained, expanded and renovated, such as the recent investments in the Father Emmano Bulfon Community Centre, the Vellore Village Community Centre, as well as over $2 million invested for the Mapleglen Seniors residence and funding for seniors programs. I am very proud of my record on delivering results for the seniors in our community. I have heard directly from our seniors through my volunteer work with them that they want to keep more money in their pockets through low taxes and have the ability to save more money. Our Conservative party has taken action on this by introducing measures such as income splitting and introducing and increasing the limit for the Tax Free Savings Account. We also recently announced that if re-elected, our Conservative party will introduce a new $2,000 Pension Income Credit for single and widowed seniors. The Liberal party has clearly said they will cancel income splitting and claw back the limit for the Tax Free Savings Account, which will directly impact the savings of our seniors.

Last night, I participated in the Village of #Woodbridge Ratepayers Association's federal debate – noting my track-record of results and commitment to lower taxes and safe streets. Woodbridge families know that this election presents a serious choice between experience and dangerous risk. A choice between our Conservative low-tax, balanced budget plan, and the Liberal’s dangerous approach that will raise taxes on all workers, cancel benefits to families, and plunge our country into permanent deficits. The wrong government decision on taxes, spending or deficits can upset the fragile economy, causing business closures, downsizing and job loss in our community. My pledge to voters in our community is to keep moving our economy forward through low-taxes, enhanced benefits for family and seniors, a balanced budget and investments in our community. Thank you to the organizers and everyone who joined us!

STATEMENT BY HON. JULIAN FANTINO: Today, Hon. Julian Fantino issued the following statement on Justin’s admission that he will immediately and urgently implement marijuana legalization: “Today, Justin admitted that his top and urgent justice priority is to change the law to allow the sale of marijuana in corner stores, putting our children at risk. Justin’s singular justice policy will make smoking marijuana a normal, everyday activity for Canadians and he wants to make marijuana available in storefront dispensaries and cornerstores just like alcohol and cigarettes. This is simply wrong, and puts the health and safety of our children and communities at risk. Under Prime Minister Harper’s leadership, our government will work to stop our kids from using illicit drugs, while getting tough on drug dealers and organized criminals who sell these drugs in our communities.”

Thanks to my friend and colleague Tony Clement, and Lozanne Wamback, founder of the Canadian Crime Victim Foundation, for joining me today in #Woodbridge to talk about our Conservative party's plan to protect our citizens and protect our economy. As a former police leader with over four decades of experience, I am appalled that Justin Trudeau believes that the rights of violent criminals and criminals that re-offend should come before the rights of victims. Those who sexually abuse or provide sexually explicit material to children, who sell drugs to children, who operate speed labs or commit drive-by shootings, should be held accountable and face certain jail time. Justin’s plan to repeal mandatory prison sentences for these types of offences may mean less or even no jail time for these deplorable and violent criminals. Canadians want violent, recidivist criminals off our streets and behind bars, where they belong.

Conservatives denounce Liberal plan to weaken crime laws; raise taxes and run permanent deficits Today, Julian Fantino, Conservative candidate for Vaughan-Woodbridge, responded to Justin Trudeau’s pledge to repeal mandatory prison sentences for serious offences. “As a former police leader with over 4 decades of experience, I am appalled that Justin Trudeau believes that the rights of violent criminals and criminals that re-offend should come before the rights of victims,” said Fantino. “Those who sexually abuse or provide sexually explicit material to children, who sell drugs to children, who operate speed labs or commit drive-by shootings, should be held accountable and face certain jail time. By repealing mandatory prison sentences for these types of offences may mean less or even no jail time for these deplorable and violent criminals. Canadians want violent, recidivist criminals off our streets and behind bars, where they belong.” Fantino also highlighted the Conservative Government’s record on getting tough on crime through the introduction and implementation of over 60 substantive pieces of legislation keeping criminals behind bars, protecting children from predators, making the justice system work for victims, and cracking down on guns, gangs and drugs. “I am proud that I have been able to use my law enforcement experience to help shape our justice policies to keep our children, seniors and communities safe. Our Conservative party will go even further to protect Canadians if re-elected, and will make Life Means Life legislation our justice priority. This will mean that those who commit the most heinous crimes will stay behind bars for life. I have long advocated for this and am pleased that our Conservative party is holding criminals accountable while protecting the rights of victims. The evidence shows that mandatory prison sentences work at keeping criminals in prison longer and hence, keeping our streets and communities safer.” The Conservative party also recently announced that a re-elected Conservative government will double the funding for Child Advocacy Centres and Child and Youth Advocacy Centres, fund research on the “invisible” economic and social damage inflicted on victims of crime, and pass the Dangerous and Impaired Driving Act, which will increase penalties for repeat offenders, simplify establishing blood alcohol concentration, and speed up impaired driving related court cases. In addition, Conservative candidate Tony Clement drew attention to the Liberal Party’s costing document yesterday, in which Justin promised to raise taxes by an additional $6.5 billion. “While Conservatives are cutting your taxes, increasing benefits to middle class families and seniors and protecting our economy, the Liberal’s yesterday unveiled their plan that would raise your taxes, plunge Canada back into permanent deficits and destabilize our fragile economy”, said Clement. Clement also drew attention to Justin’s comments yesterday in a television interview, in which he was asked to justify running deficits. This is what Justin said: “Deficits are a way of measuring the kind of growth and the kind of success that a government is actually able to create.” “Justin believes that spending beyond your means, and hiking taxes on middle class seniors and families, grows the economy”, said Clement. http://bit.ly/1VjJ1m4
