What are the priorities for regional council in the coming term? A significant aspect of our quality of life rests with the protection of our urban/rural mix within the Region. Leadership is necessary to maintain a balance between development of new subdivisions and more building in the core that takes advantage of the existing roads and services. Public transit contributes to quality of life for residents. Working in partnership with other levels of government is key to the viabilty of our transit. The LRT project is visionary. It is as much a planning tool as a transit plan. What were empty lots and closed factories just a few years ago are now under development and contributing significantly to the tax base. While I support the LRT, it is essential that the costs be monitored the project is within budget. On October 27th vote Karen Redman, Regional Council for Kitchener

September 2, 2014 Redman announces candidacy for Regional Council Today, Karen Redman announced her candidacy for Regional Councillor – Kitchener in the upcoming municipal election. “It’s an exciting time in local politics. I have always felt privileged to represent such a progressive community. I look forward to hitting the campaign trail and talking to residents about local issues and ideas,” said Redman. “From my perspective, elected office is about public service in the community. Kitchener and Waterloo Region are dynamic communities in which to live, work and raise a family.” Throughout 20 years of public service, Redman represented Kitchener Centre as Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2008. Prior to her election federally, Redman served on City of Kitchener Council and on Regional Council. Previously, she served on the Waterloo Regional District School Board where she served as vice-chair. “Regional government carries significant decision-making responsibilities. Vision and leadership make a difference at the regional level as it is a level which directly links local situations and concerns with solutions that encompass the community as a whole. Through my involvement as Chief Operating Officer at Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region, I experienced firsthand local solutions for people facing challenges affordable housing. Local solutions to social housing, homelessness, childcare, the environment and public health impact the quality of life for all citizens of the Region. Decisions about public transportation including the future of our Regional airport and support of the arts community will significantly shape future growth and prosperity. “ “Public service is a tremendous undertaking and I bring political experience in addition to valuable volunteer experience as a board member of Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region, KidsAbility, YMCA Board of Kitchener Waterloo and Cambridge, and the Independent Living Centre of Waterloo Region. I also serve on the Board of Governors of Waterloo Lutheran Seminary and as an elder at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. I value the opportunity to contribute to the development of public policy that best serves the families and businesses within our community,” said Redman.
