  The past week has been exceedingly trying--an older friend but a good friend had a massive stroke and her family hoped the sound of my voice at the hospital would help to bring her out of a coma. Unfortunately, my voice and my prayers were not enough to save her.

  Sorry to be missing in action for so long. We have had a lot of intensive family activities taking place in recent weeks while I was still trying to keep up with friends and other social events. Life should simmer down to a steady beat -- AFTER I get back from the Liberal Convention in Ottawa. In the meantime, Happy New Year to all, especially those who voted Liberal in the last election.

  This past week has been busy with meetings and lunches as well as Synod meeting on the weekend. With nice weather, I hope to get out in my yard and do all those chores needed to get ready for winter. Maybe not too exciting but I do enjoy it.

  To those who can make it, join us with Hon. Carolyn Bennett October 13th at Escalus in Mac Hall at UofC from 11am to 2pm. It is free but I have issued a challenge to attendees to join me in bringing non-perishable foods for the Campus Food Bank. Students this year have had not only grants cut back, but also student loans, and they are having a problem just surviving. Liberals are the compassionate alternative!

  August has been really busy for me gathering Operation Santa Claus gifts for our Canadian military personnel around the world. This is the final week before the parcels are shipped so they can arrive in time for Christmas. Calgarians have been so generous for this really good cause, it has been a joy to be part of.
