Thanks to former Saskatchewan Finance Minister Janice MacKinnon for her study highlighting the success of Saskatchewan's Surgical Initiative. Still more to do but Saskatchewan has gone from the longest surgical wait times in Canada to now the shortest. https://www.fraserinstitute.org/studies/learning-from-the-saskatchewan-surgical-initiative-to-improve-wait-times-in-canada

Our hearts and sympathies go out to John Ridsdel's family after the news of his death today. His life was taken away in a brutal act of murder by those with diametrically opposed values to the ones we hold. It is hard to believe this could happen to someone who was raised in Yorkton. It heightens our awareness to this global threat of terrorism that we ought never to take lightly. As a nation, we must always remain vigilant and bring individuals who wish to cause us harm, like those in this al-Qaeda linked group, to justice. On behalf of the people of Saskatchewan, we offer our condolences and prayers for better days to come for the Ridsdel family and for the other hostages still at risk.

The choice in this election could not be more important. There is the NDP’s angry list of complaints, weak record, and uncosted plan that is simply not worthy of this province. Compare that to the Saskatchewan Party’s proven record, achievable plan, and vision inspired by so many in this province who believe the New Saskatchewan is here to stay. On April 4, I respectfully ask for your vote to keep Saskatchewan strong.

In last week's budget, the federal government extended the term of benefits for employment insurance by 5 weeks for many parts of Canada, but they excluded two-thirds of Saskatchewan's oil patch. The whole southwest and southeast part of Saskatchewan, where there are a lot of energy workers, was all excluded. The Prime Minister said yesterday those excluded areas should be happy they don’t need it based on a federal formula. I know those laid off oil workers. I have neighbours that have been out of work for a long time. And in Estevan, Weyburn, and elsewhere, there’s been people out of work for a long time because of low energy prices. These EI benefit extensions should include our southwest. We will be asking the federal minister responsible, who happens to be in Saskatchewan today, to make this right.

The Saskatchewan Party has taken a different approach to our economy. Under the NDP, the government picked winners and losers by investing in or giving grants directly to businesses. The NDP also presided over Canada's worst job creation record..dead last..from 2000-2007. Under the Saskatchewan Party we stopped using tax dollars as venture capital and focused on the basics of creating the right business investment climate and promotion of our province. We turned the NDP's worst job creation record into the 2nd best job creation record in Canada.

It wasn’t too long ago we had an NDP Premier who refused to join an Asian trade mission because he considered that region of the world to hold little positive impact for Saskatchewan or its economy. Well things have changed and our government has worked hard to aggressively market Saskatchewan's products around the world. Let’s never go back to an NDP government that doesn’t think Saskatchewan has much to offer the world.

The NDP keep saying that their platform is fully costed. The problem is - that's not true. There are 18 major promises in the NDP platform with no cost provided. The NDP like to say things that aren't true over and over again and hope that people believe them, just like Mr. Broten tried to do several times during the debate: http://www.saskparty.com/broten_plan_not_costed

We will always stand up for Saskatchewan's interests. The NDP, on the other hand, seem not at all comfortable with standing up for crop science, uranium, pipelines, our oil and gas sector or trade deals that are good for Saskatchewan. Their federal cousins flat out oppose much of these.

The NDP has made 18 major promises in the platform where they don't account for the cost. That's a recipe for perpetual deficit budgets ballooning out of control if the NDP ever got elected. The Saskatchewan Party has an affordable, responsible, fully costed plan that will return the budget to balance by 2017. The choice is clear. Reckless NDP spending or a responsible Saskatchewan Party plan. Let's keep Saskatchewan strong.

If re-elected, we will cut red tape for small Saskatchewan home-based businesses so they can sell their low-risk food directly to consumers. We’ll also remove prohibition on advertising the sale of these foods so small producers can reach more people and have the opportunity to promote their products to consumers across Saskatchewan. Making it easier for small local businesses to do business in the province is an important part of our plan to keep Saskatchewan strong: http://www.saskparty.com/remove_restrictions_on_home_based_producers
