Interesting read. US business interests are influencing Canadian domestic policy. It's in their business interests to have Canadian energy trapped in the North American marketplace. All they need to do is funnel cash to Canadian environmental groups, and their work is done. All it takes is media friendly to their message, and politicians to ignore the facts, and voila, Canadian oil is cheap for them to buy. It's time we rise above this conversation, get real about the international demand for oil, recognize Canada is an environmental leader compared to other oil producing countries, and get these resources to the market, to the benefit of all Canadians.

The Liberals just don’t get it. Last week the Minister of Justice refused to answer questions about her attendance at a $500/plate pay-for-play fundraiser with Bay Street Lawyers. This week, I asked the Minister of International Trade to comment on a trip she took to Los Angeles. During this trip, the Minister appeared on a popular television show. Now the Minister claims that the trip was booked solely by her office staff, but we have since learned that her hotels were booked by Time Warner, the company who produces the television show on which the Minister appeared. Additionally, the Minister claims to have had roundtable meetings while in Los Angeles but we have also learned that these supposed meetings took place with other panelists from the television show. This “vanity” trip cost Canadian taxpayers approximately $20,000 and the Minister has said she will not apologize for promoting Canada. The question is, was she promoting Canada while she was in Hollywood or is this a case of self-promotion at the expense of Canadian taxpayers? Tell me what you think. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlDZWDcU0fY

Today the Parliamentary Budget Officer issued his full analysis of the Liberal Government's 2016 Budget. The PBO confirmed that the former Conservative Government left the Liberals with a $700 million surplus, and that the Liberal deficit would exceed $20 Billion. The PBO also confirmed that reversing the Conservative policies will result in billions in a structured deficit. Conservatives will continue to hold the Liberal Government accountable for its out-of-control spending and we will call on the Liberals to stop raising taxes on Canadian families and small businesses.

It is troubling to see that the Liberals are once again considering legislation that would pave the way for a federal gun registry and again treat responsible firearms owners like criminals. Our Conservative government stood up for law-abiding gun owners and we will continue to do so. Legislation such as this clearly outlines that Liberals are no friends of hunters, trappers, ranchers, sportshooters and farmers. http://www.edmontonsun.com/2016/04/18/gunter-departing-senators-bill-looks-to-give-restrictive-gun-registration

The Town of Sylvan Lake is a community in Central Alberta with an overall service area population of 22,316, and a tourist industry that results in an estimated 775,000 visitors a year. Perhaps you've been there, dipped your toe in the lake, brought your family out for Hockeyville celebrations or had an ice cream as you strolled down Lakeshore in the summer. There are no better ambassadors for the Town of Sylvan Lake than the residents themselves. These fine folks are warm, friendly and welcoming. Sylvan Lake really IS a town for all seasons, with one exception. Sylvan Lake currently has no hospital, Urgent Care or Ambulatory Care Centre. While the three medical clinics in Sylvan Lake are able to care for patients in most situations, emergent situations mean that residents or visitors must travel to Red Deer, Lacombe or Rimbey for care. For years, this community has made the case for an urgent care facility in Sylvan Lake and have worked tirelessly to raise money and bring awareness to this cause. I was disheartened to learn that the provincial NDP Budget has excluded funding for Urgent Care in Sylvan Lake. This is a very serious issue. The lack of urgent care in Sylvan Lake puts lives at risk. The safety and well being of Albertans should be a priority of the Provincial Government.

For the fourth time this week, the Conservatives have asked the Minister of Justice to comment on her participation in a “pay-to-play” event with Bay Street lawyers. For the fourth time, the Minister has refused to stand and answer these questions. The Prime Minister’s document “Open and Accountable Government” expressly states “Moreover, they (Ministers) have an obligation to perform their official duties and arrange their private affairs in a manner that will bear the closest public scrutiny.” At this fundraising event, Bay Street lawyers paid $500 per plate to have an opportunity to meet with the Minister of Justice, the person who is ultimately responsible for making judicial appointments. This doesn’t pass the smell test for me – does it for you?

Each year thousands of wild animals are injured, orphaned or compromised. Most of these are a result of human activities. Many of these animals can be rescued, treated and released back into their natural environement. Medicine River Wildlife Centre is a wildlife hospital and environmental education centre dedicated to assisting distressed wild animals to return back to their natural environment. You can help this fantastic organization by donating items necessary to continue to care and rehabilitate distressed animals. From April 10 - 16, the Medicine River Wildlife Centre will be having a "baby shower". Go to www.medicineriverwildlifecentre.ca for more information or like them on Facebook.

This was a great initiative. Encouraging philanthropic activity makes a lot of sense, and allows those who have the means, to use their own judgement as to which causes are worthy. Increasing taxes, and having government make all the decisions, is true or Liberal form. It's too bad, as government grows, freedom diminishes.

Statement by the Leader of the Official Opposition on the passing of Jim Hillyer March 23, 2016 For immediate release OTTAWA - Rona Ambrose, Leader of the Official Opposition and interim Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, issued the following statement today on the passing of Jim Hillyer, Conservative Member of Parliament for Medicine Hat – Cardston – Warner: “I was deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of our friend and colleague, Jim Hillyer. “Jim was a valued and hardworking member of the Conservative team, and a passionate advocate for those he represented. Canadian families work hard for their money. Families deserve policies that allow them to work and prosper in all regions of our country. The Liberal plan borrows $30 Billion and asks future Canadian families to pay the bill. In fact, Canadian families are already paying for the Liberal spending promises through increased taxes. While many Canadian famlies are already struggling to make ends meet and cannot afford these tax hikes, the Liberals are ending: - The Children's Fitness Tax Credit - The Children's Art Tax Credit - Tax credits for post-secondary education and textbooks. Instead of focusing on lowering taxes for Canadian families, the Liberals are playing politics with family benefits.

Today the Liberal Government delivered its first budget. They are borrowing tens of billions of taxpayer dollars and to pay the bill, they are raising taxes on families, workers and job-creating businesses. The Conservatives left the Liberal Government with a $3 Billion surplus and we focused on keeping taxes low and putting more money in the pockets of hard working Canadians. There is no such thing as free money. The burden of paying back this debt will be left to our children.

Notice which four provinces don't get equalization? I wonder what sets those four provinces apart? Could it be that each of them has a fossil fuel resource sector? Of course it is. Nova Scotia could join the list, but the Liberals there banned hydraulic well fracturing, which killed any investment that might have happened. Now we have tanker bans on the west coast, bringing even more uncertainty to Northern Gateway pipeline, the liberal Democrat President Obama nixed Keystone XL, and now the Liberal PM Trudeau has added layers of red tape on top of the Energy East and Trans Mountain NEB reviews, adding significant costs, more delays, and no certainty that even if the NEB approves them, that the Liberal Government will approve them. Is Trudeau's plan to make all provinces dependant on equalization?

Today Statistics Canada released the unemployment rate for February 2016, and unfortunately here in Alberta, we are not surprised to find that in total the economy lost 2,300 jobs in February, pushing the unemployment rate to 7.3%. The Conservative Government could boast over 1 million net new jobs, and the best job creation rate of any of the G-7 countries. We had a plan that would continue to grow the economy and build on continued employment. The Liberals have no jobs plan. In fact, the Liberals plan to raise taxes on job creating businesses across the country, making it harder for out of work Canadians to find employment. Private Sector investment creates jobs and drives economic growth. Canadian firms will not invest in the Canadian economy if they do not know the overall cost of doing business. Whether it is failing to find a solution to the softwood lumber dispute or creating more uncertainty for pipeline development, Liberal policies are stifling private sector investment that creates jobs for hardworking families. Moving forward, the Liberals will continue to borrow billions of dollars to pay for their spending promises, and since we know that budgets do not balance themselves, Mr. Morneau will eventually be forced to raise taxes on Canadian families and businesses.

The safety and security of Canadians should be the priority of every elected official in this country. Many people played political games with Bill C-51 in the last parliament. While debate is always welcome, and views always expressed, the reality of the world today demands tough choices be made. I am proud of the role I played as an MP in the Harper government, doing what is right, even if it wasn't popular. I know it will only be a matter of time before the Liberal Trudeau Government undoes the protections that Bill C-51 provides for Canadians.

Phone Scams Can Happen to Anyone! Today I received an automated message from someone claiming to be from the CRA. The message indicated that I had taxes owing from an audit and that I could be arrested for failure to pay. The message contained a phone number with a 613 area code (which seems legitimate because my Ottawa office phone has a 613 prefix). Now, I know about these scams and I know there are people that will try to take advantage, but even I had to take a minute and test the validity of this message. - there was no actual indication that the individual was from the CRA - my experience tells me that the caller would tell me they are with the Canada Revenue Agency. - this was an automated message. A representative from Canada Revenue Agency would not contact me using an automated message. - I know that my taxes were submitted right and on time. - If something seems wrong, it probably is. People who set up scams like this are undoubtedly attempting to take advantage of our most vulnerable citizens. If you receive a call such as this, I encourage you to contact the RCMP and provide as many details as you can about the message you receive. Do NOT call the number provided. http://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/fraud-escroquerie/types/tax-contribuable/index-eng.htm

This is just the beginning of the undoing of all our Conservative Government has done to protect Canadians and strengthen the value of Citizenship. Rather than making good choices, building on the strong position the Liberals were left in, Justin Trudeau's only agenda is undoing all the good work that has been done in the past 10 years. Canadians vastly disagree with the Liberals position in this regard. Let's hope the only price paid for this foolish decision is at the ballot box next election.

Legislation that puts the protection of Canadian Citizens who are loyal to Canada and our democracy needs to be kept in place. In a world of growing terrorist threats and attacks from within our own borders, there must be serious consequences, including loss of citizenship for dual citizens. There are many ways to express dissenting points of view, through peaceful demonstration, free speech and at the ballot box. Terrorism, joining forces against Canada and her allies, and high treason are not virtues becoming of a Canadian citizen.

Canada has never looked for trouble, but when the need is great, Canada has always done its share. Canada can be proud of our role to date in the battle against terrorism and ISIL.
