Trying to catch up with some of the pics on my camera. These are from the Crystal Shawanda’s Benefit Concert for Jolene Courtemanche. The concert was held on September 13th at the Espanola Complex and those in attendance were treated to quite a show by Crystal and her husband. A host of fundraisers have been held to assist with the purchase of a van to accommodate Jolene's wheelchair. She is an exceptional women and the response has been nopthing short of phenomenal; the final goal is very close to being achieved. Here’s a link to the efforts so far: http://moosefm.com/cjjms/news/another-wheelchair-fundraiser-for-courtemanche/

Managed to do a bit of Christmas shopping recently while visiting Christmas Bazaars in Smooth Rock Falls, St. Patricks Church in Kapuskasing, and the annual UCFO brunch & bazaar in Moonbeam.

There are many Remembrance Day ceremonies in Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing and it is impossible for me to participate in all of them. I’m sharing some pictures from a few of the ceremonies that I was able to attend (Fauquier, Webwood, Espanola High School, Elliot Lake: Cenotaph & St. Joseph Manor) that took place throughout Veterans Week.

In addition to that the stitching was done compliments of KD Designs. I hope some of you are inspired to get your own Boobscarf to help fund the cure! Yesterday in Question Period I asked about the Conservative's 2012 dismantling of the Joint Preparedness Program which helped fund heavy search and rescue like the HUSAR team that was deployed in Elliot Lake. The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Safety had this to say - "I thank the hon. member for that question. That was indeed a tragic event that did happen. I will take that question under advisement to the minister." I let her know this was nothing to take under advisement but something to take action on! This is how they built a surplus folks.

Here is my official statement on the Report of the Elliot Lake Commission of Inquiry: Upon the completion of the Commission of Inquiry into the collapse of the Algo Mall I would like to join many others who are offering their thanks and gratitude to Commissioner Bélanger and the members of his team who have worked so hard to present a thorough report. I want to take this opportunity to once more send my regrets to the families of Doloris Perizzolo and Lucie Aylwin. I am sure that the completion of this part of the process is as welcome for these families as it is for the community that grieved along with them and also struggled to understand how this could happen. As we go forward we must always remember that at the heart of this issue are individuals, their loved ones, and a community that has suffered great loss. I feel Justice Bélanger has maintained that perspective and his work reflects that as well. The Commission of Inquiry has allowed us to deconstruct the events that led to the collapse of the Algo Mall on June 23rd, 2012 and also points to the work that must be done to ensure an event like this is avoided in the future. It is only by making use of the recommendations in the Commission’s report that we can fully honour the lives of Doloris Perizzolo and Lucie Aylwin and make something good out of such a tragedy.
