For my friends who perhaps pay a little less attention to politics, please allow me to provide a little commentary on why this is such a big deal. Caucus is a political party's command center - it is where positions and taken, policy vetted and political actions coordinated. By removing senators from caucus, Trudeau is differentiating the role of MPs and the role of Senators. He is taking the first step in changing a culture and reaffirming a commitment to an independent Senate review. Things won't change overnight, but it will never change when actions in the House and in the Senate and coordinated by a Prime Minister who effectively views the two chambers as like instruments for achieving his political objectives.

For years our Prime Minister has been infringing on the processes and institutions which are the backbone of our democracy. Great to now have an opposition leader who is able to seize the moment and introduce a motion that not only draws attention to this, but creates positive reform Canadians can begin to believe in again.
