ndpIt has been a hectic few days in the House of Commons, sitting until 11:30 last night, til 8:30 tonite, after all day meetings. Thankfully, I attended a reception tonite to thank the pages who’ve worked in the House. I enjoyed hearing their refreshing views, and about what they’ve learned. Talked to three of them – all bilingual - from Victoria. One of them told me that what she appreciated most during her experience in Ottawa was seeing MPs from different parties sit down together and talk in a friendly way about issues. She said that sure presented a different picture from the one Canadians get from television.May 16, 2012 8:16 pm | British Columbia, Victoria - MP

ndpSitting with the parents of Cpl. Stuart Langridge today in Ottawa at the Military Police Complaints Commission hearing into his suicide. As a Mom it was difficult for me to understand how these incredibly brave parents could relive this tragedy. I just hope the Dept. of National Defense learns something from this tragedy. http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/News/6578102/story.htmlMay 08, 2012 4:06 pm | British Columbia, Victoria - MP

ndpEarth Hour is 8:30 p.m. around the globe tonight, when turning off the lights shines a light on climate change. In Canada it is especially meaningful when we have a Conservative government that gutted environmental protection in Thursday's federal budget, and has reversed our reputation on the world stage, from leaders to fossils, giving us one of the worst records on greenhouse-gas emissions in the industrialized world.Mar 31, 2012 9:17 am | British Columbia, Victoria - MP
ndpWatering down of environmental assessments, subsidies for pipeline development, weakening of food labelling regulations, billions in cuts to health care and pensions, attacks on charities, cuts to fisheries and oceans. ndpLooking forward to my press conference tomorrow morning, 10 a.m. at Fort and Douglas, for the transfer of my Green Commuter Choices Bill to our deputy critic for transport and infrastructure, Jamie Nicholls (Vaudreuil-Soulanges). As Deputy Speaker of the House I am not able to take the lead on Private Member's Bills, but I will collaborate with Jamie. He has lived in Victoria and is the natural person to bring forward this important legislation. The Bill would let employers provide tax-free commuter benefits for green commuting options like transit, carpooling and cycling.Feb 09, 2012 5:07 pm | British Columbia, Victoria
