I was pleased to come into the office this morning and waiting for me was an award of recognition from the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs as a "Friend of Volunteer Firefighters". I am honoured by the recognition and steadfast in my support of volunteer firefighters, who give so much to our community

Happy International Women's Day. We've certainly come a long way, both in Guelph and across Canada; however, there is still much more work to be done for women across the world and, fittingly, rural women who are celebrated in particular this year.

Like a scene from Narnia we were hurt but far from beaten. We have returned to our villages, our resolve strengthened, ready to fight again.

Went to Winnipeg again. Ending the Canadian Wheat Board rips sales and marketing away from our farmers that's vital for their survival. The only people that profit are the large grain companies and the railways. That's why they want it ended.

Guelph MP Frank Valeriote was also present at the announcement. As the Liberal party’s critic for agriculture and rural affairs, he said the average age of farmers is 58 years old. “I’m pressing the government to do what they can to encourage people, youth to be involved in agriculture,” he said. “The opportunities are tremendous.”

"The short-sighted decision to stop inspections of provincial meat plants will place the health of Canadians at serious risk, will strain the resources of provincial governments, and could lead to the to the privatization of inspection services," federal Liberal agriculture critic Frank Valeriote, an Ontario MP, said Wednesday.

Guelph MP Frank Valeriote, who defeated Burke by over 6,000 votes, said he hopes efforts are made to hold more special ballots for students. The percentage of young people who cast ballots in elections is low, he indicated, and every effort should be made to encourage more to vote, and make the process of voting as convenient as possible.

Guelph MP Frank Valeriote specifically addressed the children in the crowd, of which there were a great many. “You have a fabulous role model here who is showing you that you can achieve your wildest dreams,” he said, speaking of Peverley. It is just possible that one of those kids could themselves bring the Stanley Cup back to Guelph in the future, Valeriote said.

It has just come to my attention that voters in Guelph are being called by people claiming that your polling stations have been changed. Please disregard these calls. They are a lie and Elections Canada have been notified. Please vote at the polling station identified on the voting card sent to you by Elections Canada. This is an outrage. Please fight this anti-democratic effort to suppress your vote.
