It's so great to see young voters making this election their own and finding a voice in the Green Party.Apr 28, 2011 10:39 am | Ontario, Sudburygre
Elizabeth May: "We have people in our own country living in third world conditions. St. Theresa Point Nation in Manitoba is facing a crisis with its water and sewage infrastructure. The response from our government last week was to send them slop buckets." We need a real plan for First Nations! http://bit.ly/dHZY6jApr 26, 2011 7:45 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre
Just saw this article on how Saskatchewan is planning to invest $1.2B into carbon capture at one of it's coal plants. This is great news, and the kinds of projects the federal government should support and be a leader in developing further. http://bit.ly/hXEiv7Apr 26, 2011 12:06 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre
Today Green Party leader Elizabeth May is calling for a major boost to pensions. We will increase the Guaranteed Income Supplement, and phase in a doubling of the target income replacement rate from 25% to 50%. The CPP is the right foundation to build on! http://greenparty.ca/media-release/2011-04-25/elizabeth-may-calls-major-boost-pensionsApr 25, 2011 8:23 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre
Hope to see you there!Apr 25, 2011 7:34 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre

Harper is trying hard to convince us that what we need is a Conservative majority. But what will that lead to? Sure he will get more done but will it be good for the country? The conservatives should be promoting the qualities of their policies to earn a majority unless they do not think that they are worthy of one. Harper tries to control everything now, so who would he listen to with a majority?Apr 24, 2011 7:39 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre
Workplace child care is convenient, increases productivity, and is one plank in our platform that puts children first! http://bit.ly/eSvJOpApr 23, 2011 8:59 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre

Today advance polls opened, and from what I hear there are lines in many places. I hope this is a sign of more Canadians making their voice heard! Advance polls are open again tomorrow and on Monday. Do you have any questions? Elections Canada has all the information here: http://elections.ca/home.aspxApr 22, 2011 7:33 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre
I recommend this article in Northern Life. Though I warn you: according to one commenter I am poisoning our kids at LU with non-organic pancakes! http://www.northernlife.ca/news/localNews/2011/04/green-party-QA190411.aspxApr 21, 2011 5:48 am | Ontario, Sudburygre
A Canadian military report raises many of the concerns regarding our security situation as climate change progresses that the Green Party has long been talking about. Here is an article in the Vancouver Sun on the report: http://www.vancouversun.com/technology/shortages+environmental+decline+could+create+global+quagmire+military/4630846/story.htmlApr 20, 2011 9:22 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre
The Green Party of Canada believes it is time to treat Canadians with disabilities with dignity. We endorse the Basic Income Program proposed by the Caledon Institute, including an income security program for people with disabilities. http://greenparty.ca/media-release/2011-04-20/ensure-inclusion-people-disabilities-says-mayApr 20, 2011 9:13 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre
The Federation of Canadian Municipalities told us that commuter gridlock has already cost our country $292 million and 2.7 million working days just since the start of this election. That is why investing in public transit makes economic sense! It is also a crucial element in reducing our dependence on increasingly expensive oil. http://greenparty.ca/media-release/2011-04-19/greens-want-get-cities-moving-againApr 20, 2011 8:58 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre
One of the best stories of this election could be how young voters became engaged and made their voices be heard. I love this video by the Young Greens to get out the vote! No matter who you intend to support make sure you vote starting this Friday in the advance polls or on election day, May 2nd. http://bit.ly/gup26DApr 19, 2011 6:04 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre
Is this the kinds of stories we want to see on the front page of CNN about Canada? We desperately need better environmental monitoring in the tar sands and what we need even more than that is a focus towards clean and sustainable energy sources in Canada.Apr 19, 2011 5:31 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre
This press release from the Green Party today ties in nicely with my post from a few days ago. It reiterates our support for locally grown food for our Canadian farmer. http://greenparty.ca/media-release/2011-04-18/green-party-calls-democracy-food-policyApr 18, 2011 8:01 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre
This article really illustrates why we need the voice of the Green Party in Canada. The World Bank president says that we are one shock away from a crisis due to rising food prices. They are rising of course because of the high price of oil. Our party is the only one with a real plan: support local farming and reduce our dependence on oil! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-13108166Apr 17, 2011 4:43 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre

Thank you Richard St Amour for bringing National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week to our attention. I thought I would provide a link to the Trillium Gift of Life Network website: http://www.giftoflife.on.ca/page.cfm?id=F4EDBBB1-0C04-4FED-91E2-3C7E070542EDApr 17, 2011 9:02 am | Ontario, Sudburygre
Seeing almost record breaking fuel prices today really brings home two points: 1. The only real longterm solution is to wean ourselves off of oil. We need to invest in the development of alternatives! 2. Oil companies are pulling in record profits AND they are being subsidized by you the Canadian tax payer! There's something wrong with this picture!Apr 15, 2011 7:56 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre
The Green Party of Canada is fiscally responsible. Our platform is balanced: http://greenparty.ca/platform2011/budget. Our position on fiscal responsiblity is summarized more fully in Vision Green (page 12): http://greenparty.ca/files/attachments/vision_green_2011en_0.pdfApr 15, 2011 7:52 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre
We need a national strategy for affordable housing. It concentrates on two efforts: 1. Making rental space more easily available to small businesses (through targeted infrastructure spending in municipalities), and 2. Build affordable housing units across Canada through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). For more details: http://bit.ly/hWuV8WApr 15, 2011 5:21 am | Ontario, Sudburygre
As Naheed Nenshi, the mayor of Calgary, noticed the Green Party is the only one that has a plan for cities. Some of the key elements include: a national affordable housing program, a national solar roof program, and an energy retrofits for municipal buildings, schools, universities and hospitals. What would the Green Party have liked to see discussed at the debates? Here is a sample of points: http://greenparty.ca/media-release/2011-04-12/canadians-shortchanged-leaders-debateApr 13, 2011 8:04 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre

Tomorrow I will be in Lively to give a presentation at Lively High (at noon). It is so very important to engage your next generation of voters to hear what their concerns are and to hopefully inspire them to become involved and make their voice count.Apr 13, 2011 7:54 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre
Elizabeth May was held out of the debates by a shadowy consortium but you can watch her reaction on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/canadiangreenparty#p/u/0/d7sTt1YaRs4Apr 13, 2011 7:49 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre
From my twitter feed: http://twitter.com/#!/fredtwilley. Gas is $1.30 here. Food prices rising, and CO2 emissions too. Our economy relies on cheap oil or it tanks. None of that debated tonight! #pmharper is right on this: We DO need to keep focus on economy. Only what we need is a shift to security through sustainability.Apr 12, 2011 8:38 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre
As came up in the discussion between Carter Apps and I below there are a number of options to consider that could replace first past the post. Here is another cartoon explaining the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system that was proposed in BC. http://archive.fairvote.org/media/bc-stv-full.swfApr 11, 2011 11:34 am | Ontario, Sudburygre
It can be hard to explain why first past the post is not in the interest of democracy in Canada. One alternative that I think has many merits is the preferential ballot. And here is a nice video explaining it with fun animals! Have a look! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Y3jE3B8HsEApr 11, 2011 10:21 am | Ontario, Sudburygre
By voting Green you are sending a message that action needs to be taken. More and more that message is being heard. This newest Green Party of Canada add illustrates the message very nicely! http://bit.ly/dTJeWDApr 10, 2011 4:32 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre

We're calling on all of you to demand democratic debates by texting "EMAYIN" to 79999. Please text your friends and family and ask them to do the same. The Green Party will be in court tomorrow seeking a legal resolution to the injustice of Elizabeth's exclusion from the debates.Apr 04, 2011 7:36 pm | Ontario, Sudburygre
We've been saying it for a long time: To guarantee our economic security we need to shift towards a green economy. Today the Liberals seem to agree with us at least in part with their proposed Green Renovation Tax Credit. It's a good start, and more along those lines will be needed! Here is what the Green Party calls for in Vision Green: http://greenparty.ca/node/13324Apr 03, 2011 8:51 am | Ontario, Sudburygre
