My Constituency and Parliament Hill Offices are now closed for the holidays. While my staff and I will no doubt see many of you out and about in the community over the next couple of weeks, we wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2016! http://ow.ly/W64Cu

Just a reminder that until 4:30pm Friday my office is collecting donations to help support families of injured and disabled workers who through no fault of their own are going without this Christmas. We are especially looking for canned soup, or grocery cards to help put food on their tables. The grocery cards are very helpful so that perishable can be purchased. We are also have a couple of older children (11 and 12 year olds) and young adult male with mental health challenges, being supported by these injured workers, for whom we don't yet have something. If someone has movie passes they might donate, a night out at the movies would be a wonderful gift. If you are able to help brighten a family's holidays, please stop by the office and contribute to our collection box.

Earlier this year Rumman Khan was recognized by Fanshawe College as one of their "Student of the Year" recipients. It was my pleasure to welcome him to the constituency office and congratulate him in person yesterday.

Tonight the first four Syrian refugees who will be settling in London will be arriving at Pearson Airport in Toronto along with 212 other refugees who will be settling in communities across 5 different provinces. I know Canadians will make them feel welcome here.

I had great time this weekend participating in the Arygle Santa Clause Parade. I had the chance to connect with staff and students from Clarke Rd S.S. (where I too was both a student and later a teacher). And of course again this year I had great fun marching with the Navy League Cadets. Thanks to the Argyle BIA for putting together another great parade this year.

Remember the election promise to give hard working middle class Canadians a break on their taxes? It turns out Justin Trudeau's "middle class" tax break means nothing to most Canadians: http://www.ndp.ca/news/government-tax-cut-means-nothing-to-most-canadians

Dear Friends, As Christmas approaches, we are always reminded that there are those in our community who are in need. This year, I am asking you to consider helping me assist some of our families in London who are in need because a work related injury or disability has left someone unable to work. In partnership with the London Injured & Disabled Workers Group, we have 9 children of various ages (from 11 months to 12yrs old), and their families who need some Christmas cheer. Donations of non-perishable food, gift cards, movie passes or dining cards, would be most welcome. From now until December 18th, we will be accepting donations at my London office, 1700 Dundas St., and will then be distributing the donations to those in need. Wishing everyone a Happy Hanukkah, a Merry Christmas, and all the best in 2016. Irene

Yesterday we marked the 26th anniversary of the École Polytechnique massacre, the dark day in our nation’s history when 14 women were murdered and others injured simply because they were women. Today the NDP used our allotted Members Statements to continue to all for the Government of Canada to work to end violence against women: http://www.ndp.ca/news/government-must-work-to-end-violence-against-women
