ndpToday in parliament I asked why the Senate is being allowed to investigate itself. When Canadians break the law, they get charged. So, why are Conservatives giving their senators a free ride? http://irenemathyssen.ca/post/does-the-government-agree-the-senate-cannot-be-trusted-to-investigate-itselfMay 10, 2013 12:35 pm | Ontario, London—Fanshawe - MP
ndpLondon's unemployment rate continues to climb, hitting 9.9% for last month, as the impact of Harper Government job cuts hit healthcare, and social services workers. Sadly, even with London's other two MPs sitting in the Conservative caucus, I doubt we will see any meaningful action from the government to help the London area: http://www.londoncommunitynews.com/news-story/2558127-london-unemployment-increases-to-9-9-percent/May 10, 2013 11:32 am | Ontario, London—Fanshawe - MP
ndpAlthough they have lost $3.1 Billion, and have not accounted for how another $9 Billion was spent, in so called “anti-terrorism funding”, the Conservatives seem to be very interested in costing and decrying the cost of some NDP proposals (including one of mine to help workers when a factory or office closes). I hope you will take a look at this article and let me know if you agree that our spending on our proposals—which mostly help seniors and veterans—would be a better use of your tax dollars than “Economic Action Plan” advertising and “lost” billions allegedly spent on “anti-terrorism”: http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/inside-politics-blog/2013/05/tories-release-cost-estimates-for-more-ndp-proposals.htmlMay 08, 2013 12:16 pm | Ontario, London—Fanshawe - MP

ndpDear Friends, For the next several days I will not be updating or monitoring my facebook page as I will away from the office and travelling to attend a family funeral as my husband Keith's sister has passed away. As always, my team in the London office will be available to respond to constituent concerns and I know my fellow NDP MPs will continue to stand-up for Canadians in parliament during my absence. Sincerely, IreneApr 25, 2013 3:25 pm | Ontario, London—Fanshawe - MP
ndpMy sincere thanks to the volunteers who have been at my office every Thursday for the past 7 weeks preparing income tax returns for lower income Londoners who required help filing. The tax clinics have now concluded at my constituency office, but there are still a few locations in the city offering this free service leading up to the filing deadline. I have included a link below to the full list of locations. Again, my sincerest thanks to the wonderful volunteers who helped approximately 600 constituents get their taxes filed on time: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/ndvdls/vlntr/clncs/london-on-eng.htmlApr 25, 2013 1:55 pm | Ontario, London—Fanshawe - MP
ndpI participated in the debate on the so called "Anti-Terrorism" legislation this week. Allowing the detention of citizens without charge sets a dangerous precedent that I simply cannot support. Further, it is clear from the so-called "Toronto 18" and the recent allegations of a plot to target a VIA rail train that CSIS and the RCMP already have the tools they need to do their job and keep us safe. That is the reason I voted against this legislation. You can read my debate comments here: http://irenemathyssen.ca/post/in-debate-on-s-7-terrorism-legislationApr 25, 2013 11:20 am | Ontario, London—Fanshawe - MP
ndpMy colleague, NDP MP & House Leader Nathan Cullen, exposed the twisted hypocrisy of the Conservatives claiming Opposition MPs who vote against a bad budget are voting against everything in it. It seems the Defence Minister has a record of voting AGAINST the Canadian Forces when the funding is in another party's budget! http://t.co/ofQC9OcOHCApr 24, 2013 1:26 pm | Ontario, London—Fanshawe - MP
ndpThis is the Conservative "Economic Action Plan", raising the cost of more than 1200 everyday items for Canadian families.
