Why the 2015 Budget isn't really a "Seniors' Budget", a no-nonsense look at what was missing, and the reasons the items touted as "good for seniors" don't do much at all: http://www.nationalnewswatch.com/2015/04/27/the-2015-federal-budget-not-a-real-seniors-budget/#.VT64_ZMhFJA

Last week I had the opportunity to speak about the importance of VIA Rail and implementing high performance rail in our region as part of an integrated transportation strategy. It is a long speech, but I hope you will give it a watch, because reliable, affordable rail in southwestern Ontario is key to our long term prosperity and a healthy environment. https://youtu.be/mt1L22Q0K4A

The London Free Press reports on the proposal to move the Duchess of Kent Legion to Wolseley Barracks. This would be a win for our local heritage, a win for our veterans, and a win for the taxpayer: http://www.lfpress.com/2015/04/26/sparing-one-mess-could-fix-another

As everyone has seen in my previous posts, supporting our Legions and our veterans, as well as trying to preserve some of London’s military heritage at Wolseley Barracks are issues important to me. Today, I have issued an open letter to both the Minister of Veterans Affairs and the Minister of National Defence, informing them that the Duchess of Kent Legion would like to save the taxpayers a $20,000 demolition bill, and instead purchase the Officers’ Mess at the barracks as its new home. This would be a win for our veterans and our community. I’m asking everyone to please take 5 minutes and email the Ministers to express your support for this proposal if you agree with me that they should help make this happen. Here is my letter: http://ow.ly/M4Ddv

I want to take this opportunity to share a good news story about London's Fanshawe College. Earlier this month the results of the International Student Barometer survey ranked Fanshawe College 1st in Ontario and 2nd IN THE WORLD in overall satisfaction among the 183 institutions evaluated! Congratulations to Peter Devlin and all the staff at Fanshawe College who work so hard to provide a great experience for students.

The Conservatives past due federal budget today pretends to be balanced. It is NOT. In a strategy Londoners will recognize from our previous "0%ers" on City Council, this budget is balanced in name only, depending on a fire sale of public assets, using up contingency funds, and further cuts to public services and public sector workers. Here is my take on where this budget fails (as well as a couple of positives from it): http://ow.ly/LWbF9

Joining London's Jewish Community this evening for Holocaust Memorial services. As we remember the six million Jewish people who died in a genocide of unequalled tragedy, we also remember and are thankful for those who risked their own lives in providing refuge to those who survived. As human beings, it is our duty to oppose intolerance, racism and hatred of any kind and ensure that this tragedy is never repeated. Lest we forget.

I've heard voters ask many times why the NDP and Liberals don't "merge" to fight the Harper Government. This article in the Globe and Mail should make it clear. As the author says "Under Mr. Trudeau’s leadership, the Liberals on most major files have become virtually indistinguishable from Stephen Harper’s Conservatives". Or as New Democrats have long said, "Liberal, Tory, same old story". If you want want to change the channel on the Harper Agenda, only a vote for the NDP will do that: http://ow.ly/LIioC

It would be nice if Conservative MPs actions matched their words. Chatham-Kent MP reads from NDP Senior's Plan to seniors when talking to the local CARP members in Chatham, but votes against it in Parliament. The way for seniors in Chatham to get what Mr. VanKesteren supports is to vote NDP. As Jack Layton would say, if you vote for what you really want, you just might get it!: http://ow.ly/LyKa7

According to what I've been able to find out, after spending $350,000 on building repairs, the government is now spending $525,000 to demolish those buildings.
