In light of community concerns raised around systemic racism, discriminatory practices like carding and mass demonstrations demanding an investigation into the death of a racialized man, failing to even read the report for over a month is simply disgraceful. Now refusing to release the report to the public without any justification is simply unacceptable. It shows us why grassroots organizing by community groups like Black Lives Matter - Toronto is so important. If the Premier and Ontario’s Attorney General are serious about addressing systemic racism in our criminal justice system, they have an odd way of showing it.

It was an unfair question, with the sale of Hydro One it's clear that Kathleen Wynne and the Liberals are not only learning from Mike Harris they're trying to outdo him. Step 1. Privatize public assets and put the province in a worse off fiscal position. Step 2. Undermine the democratic process.

The Sikh Flag or Nishaan Sahib has officially been raised at the Ontario Legislative Assembly! The fact that this motion was presented and passed unanimously today on April 14th, 2016 the day Sikhs celebrate Vaisakhi makes it all the more meaningful. This marks the first time in Ontario’s history and possibly the first time in any Parliament or Legislature in the world that the Nishaan Sahib was raised outside of Punjab.

Day of Pink Today people wear pink shirts in a show of solidarity to end bullying. As a young Sikh boy growing up in a city without a lot of diversity, I got picked on a lot. I had funny sounding name, brown skin and a turban. In case you're wondering, yes this definitely gave bullies a lot of ammunition. Kids didn't only laugh and make fun of me but they also attacked me for being different. I remembering getting into fights on an almost daily basis. I was a tough kid so I tried my best to stand up for myself but it's not something I would wish on anyone. Life can be hard enough without having to worry about bullies. I figured more than a pink shirt a pink turban would be a stronger statement of my support of the movement to #StopBullying Together let's stop bullying and build a more accepting society

No, this isn't another episode of House of Cards, it's another day under Premier Wynne and the Ontario Liberals. I think that Liberal Cabinet Ministers receiving money to do something that directly benefits a specific group of Bankers and Lawyers warrants an investigation by the Integrity Commissioner.

“Today I made an official complaint to Ontario’s Integrity Commissioner. The laws are clear: you can’t use an elected office for a personal benefit, but the Liberal quota scheme seems to be doing just that. It is clear to most people that the Premier, as the leader of the Liberal Party and head of cabinet, had to have approved of this quota system and may have been directly involved in the assignments. This quota system was the responsibility of the Premier.” — Ontario NDP Deputy Leader Jagmeet Singh.

Happy Sikh Heritage Month! April 1st marks the beginning of Sikh Heritage Month in Ontario which runs for the entire month of April. Communities across the province will participate by holding events throughout the month. Sikh Heritage Month provides an opportunity to learn more about the distinct and unique spirituality of Sikhi. Through knowledge and understanding we dispel ignorance and fear in order to move towards a more inclusive and accepting society. Also be sure to check out the Sikh Heritage Month Opening Kickoff! tonight at the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) (9 Wellington St E, Brampton) starting at 6pm! The amazing turnout of community leaders, activists and concerned citizens to our Town Hall on March 29th demonstrates the passion and commitment of the community to fight discriminatory practices like carding and street checks. I want to thank our amazing panelists San Grewal, Anthony Morgan, Knia Singh, Roger Love and Nicole Bonnie for providing such amazing content. It's clear that while the Liberal government's recently announced carding policy is an incremental step in the right direction it fails to adequately address the issues because of overly broad exemptions, a complete lack of guidance with respect to data already collected and the excessive delay in implementation. However the Town Hall showed us that the way forward will involve safe spaces and real discussions with the community in order to empower and engage those affected by this discriminatory practice. While we will continue to challenge the discriminatory practice of carding we must recognize that it is a symptom of the broader issue of systemic racism. Friends that is why we must continue the struggle together in order to truly create a just and equitable society.

Things got a little heated at Queen’s Park, thankfully my hand is no longer stinging, but I don’t apologize for standing up for the people of Ontario who deserve better from this Liberal Government. I almost feel embarrassed for the Liberal government, who seems to think Ontarians will believe their excuses. When asked why they broke their promise to reduce auto insurance rates by 15% within 2 years they tried to blame the opposition for obstructing. Only problem is Premier Wynne and the Liberals have been in power with a MAJORITY for over a year and a half! Like and share so we can let the Liberals know enough is enough.

"...Transcripts, as Templeton wrote, are integral at all levels of justice and they “assist(s) an accused and the Crown alike in ensuring that their rights and responsibilities have been properly upheld and satisfied...." A number of Ontario consumers have advised CPBH over the years that their transcripts were missing when they appealed Tarion's decisions at Ontario's Licence Appeal Tribunal (LAT). CPBH discussed this serious operational issue with SLASTO/LAT officials in Nov. 2015, and we are still awaiting a response about what they are doing to ensure that this doesn't happen again. CPBH has also brought this to the attention of Attorney General Meilleur, the two Critics (PC Critic Randy Hillier, NDP Critic Jagmeet Singh), the Auditor General of Ontario and the Ombudsman of Ontario. #accountability #transparency #AccessToJustice

Black History Month deserves more than just a celebratory message from your elected representatives. Over the last several months, I’ve had an opportunity to work with some incredible black community groups, activists and leaders about policing and ways we can improve Ontario’s criminal justice system. Together, we worked hard to develop and pass a motion that directs the Ontario government to end the practice of carding. Carding effects racialized minorities of all stripes, and I was recently reminded at an event celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. of an inspiring quote – “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” This February as we celebrate Black History Month, I call on our political leaders to continue to stand for racialized minorities throughout the province and to legislate with the concepts of fairness and justice in mind, at all times. Note: This past weekend I had the remarkable privilege of listening to the Hon Dr. Jean Augustine, the first African Canadian women elected to Canadian Parliament, who introduced and passed the legislation proclaiming February as Black History Month in Canada.

Wynne calls it a 'stretch goal' - I call it a broken promise. Premier Wynne now claims the promise of a 15% reduction in auto-insurance premiums was always a 'stretch goal'. Let’s be clear – this is nothing but a new label for another failed promise by the Ontario Liberals. When the NDP pressured the Liberal Government to agree to the 15% auto insurance reduction in 2013, the Liberals promised to make it happen in 2 years. In fact, the Ontario Liberals repeated this commitment during the election soon after! At any point do you remember the Premier saying it was a 'stretch goal' when she asked for your vote? How much have your auto insurance rates come down by?
