When it comes to equipping our troops, the Liberals are deliberately misleading Canadians. The budget says, “funding that is not yet allocated to specific projects...can be moved forward to future years”, but the Liberals are making a $3.7 billion cut to the defence budget. They are taking hundreds of millions of dollars from important military projects that are already under way.

Unfortunately, here in Ottawa, our military is entering another era of darkness. The Liberals' $3.7-billion defence cut from the defence budget are not only for future procurements, but they are also cutting the budget for current projects like the Arctic offshore patrol ships and the Halifax-class frigate upgrades. Why will the Prime Minister not get the equipment for our troops now?

The Liberals have already locked in their ideological direction for the Canadian Armed Forces, so why should Canadians expect their views to actually be heard in the Liberal defence review? https://youtu.be/qKsZCac0ZDs

Team Tory had a good day yesterday finishing second in the 5th annual Parliament Hill Basketball Tournament. Although losing in the finals to the Liberals suck, the best news of the day was the fact that we raised over $20,000 for Christie Lake Kids! Thank you to all of the supporters, donors, participants and sponsors for putting on a great event!

The abolition of temporary resident visa requirements for Ukrainian citizens will allow the free movement of our citizens between our two nations. It will bring significant investment and exchange of knowledge between Canada and Ukraine, and promote tourism.

If Canada believes in free trade with Ukraine, it should also believe in lifting visa requirements so people can more easily travel between the two countries.

April 9th is Vimy Day, the day to commemorate the deaths and casualties of the members of the Canadian Armed Forces during the First World War Battle of Vimy Ridge. This day is organized by the Vimy Foundation. Inspired by the heroic victory of the Canadian Forces at Vimy Ridge in April 1917, a milestone where Canada came of age and was then recognized on the world stage, the Vimy Foundation believes that the key to a successful future lies in knowing one’s past. The Battle of Vimy Ridge has remained such a key part of our collective understanding as a country not only because it was a military victory, but because many of the core Canadian values were a contributing factor to its success: leadership, innovation, teamwork. You can learn more about the Foundation here: http://www.vimyfoundation.ca/

I am very disturbed by comments made by Foreign Affairs Minister Dion on reestablishing diplomatic relations with Russia. We must not be fooled as Russia and Canada "normalize relations". The Kremlin and its kleptocracy see this as the first steps towards appeasement and the easing of sanctions. Dion and the Trudeau government are naive if they think President Putin will get out of Ukraine with their open communication and soft diplomacy. Putin is provoked by weakness! And this is weak foreign policy! Canada must be #unitedforukraine and stand with the people of Ukraine. The Russian invasion and occupation of Ukrainian territory is not just an attack against Ukraine's sovereignty, but it's an attack against our shared values such as democracy, liberty, human rights, the rule of law and prosperity for all. Unfortunately, the Liberal government has unwittingly chosen to open the door for Russia, the biggest threat to global peace and security; and started to close the door on Ukraine's European aspirations that so many have fought and died for since the Revolution of Dignity on the Maidan.

"The Liberal budget is an attack on our armed forces. The Liberals slashed $3.7 billion from the defence budget and they are killing military procurement for five years. Our armed forces cannot afford another dark era of Liberal neglect. The Liberals have put us on the sidelines in the war against terrorism."

"The Liberals continue to ignore the threat of terrorism. In fact, one of their very first pieces of legislation was to return Canadian citizenship to convicted terrorists. I would like to remind the Liberals that a terrorist is a terrorist is a terrorist. Why will the Prime Minister not take the fight against terror seriously and put Canada back in the combat mission against ISIS?"

"The reason that the debate is so important is that we want to talk about human rights, but we have to focus in on the great work that has been done by the Office of Religious Freedom under the leadership of Ambassador Andrew Bennett. We need to remember that when we look at most of the atrocities that have been committed around the world, when we look at most of the human rights violations that too many people have had the misfortune of experiencing, it always starts with an attack on religious freedom."

ISIS represents a clear and present threat to Canada and in particular to the members of the Canadian Armed Forces. This was made clear when two CAF members were attacked at a recruiting centre in Toronto. Following the murders of Warrant Officer Patrick Vincent and Corporal Nathan Cirillo, the Department of National Defence launched a full-scale review of the force protection posture of the CAF. Today the National Defence committee unanimously passed my motion to study the protection of CAF members. The safety of our troops must be a priority. You can see the full text of motion here:
