NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Vancouver Quadra Electoral District Association Dear Green Party Supporter: There is a spirit of change in the air these days. From the Middle East, to Europe, to right here in North America, people are increasingly raising their voices in support of changes the Green Party has been demanding for decades: true representative democracy; a more balanced, just and sustainable economic system; and governments that act as better caretakers of our natural environment for future generations. The Green Party understands that unrestrained consumption and unlimited growth are not possible on a planet with finite resources. The environmental, social, and economic problems we are facing are serious and real, but our best hope lies in working together to generate solutions. That is why we are hoping you will join us at the Vancouver Quadra Green Party AGM. Date: Tuesday, November 15th, 2011 Time: 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm Location: Kitsilano Neighbourhood House RSVP: Please RSVP to Lee_Wood@shaw.ca At the AGM we will be electing a new riding executive and planning our strategy for the upcoming year. Elizabeth May’s victory in Saanich-Gulf Islands proved that a committed team of volunteers and supporters can make history and elect Green MPs to Canada’s parliament. Here in Vancouver Quadra live some of the most environmentally-minded voters in the country. There is no reason why our riding couldn’t also be represented by a Green MP. If you are not yet a Green Party member, please consider joining today. If you buy your membership more than 30 days before the AGM (prior to Oct. 16th) you will be able to vote and stand for executive positions on the Quadra EDA. Here is a list of the EDA positions that we need to fill. Mark Allen (Financial Agent) and Lee Wood (CEO) have agreed to stand for nomination in their current roles. Françoise Raunet (Volunteer Chair) is willing to take on whatever duties are not filled by others and encourages any other Quadra members who are interested to stand for nomination in her current role. There is currently no one on the Quadra EDA filling the roles of Membership, Fundraising, or Communications Chairs. If you live in Vancouver Quadra and would like to help your local Green Party in any of these areas, please come to the meeting and present yourself for nomination. We look forward to harnessing our collective strengths to turn the tide for Green politics in this riding! 1. CEO: organizes and chairs regular meetings, builds and guides the executive, oversees the operation of the riding association, ensures there is a candidate 2. Financial Agent: maintains books, makes bank deposits and writes cheques, issues tax receipts, files annual financial report with Elections Canada, informs executive of Elections Act regulations re finances 3. Membership Chair: maintains membership contact information using the party’s on-line database, plans membership drives, sends communications to members 4. Fundraising Chair: plans and directs fundraising strategy. 5. Volunteer Chair: recruits volunteers, and helps keep our lists up-to-date. 6. Communications Chair: maintains contact list of local media, builds relations with media, plans media strategy to increase the riding association’s visibility, writes media releases, oversees e-newsletter to members, helps write leaflets, manages website content. 7. Member(s) at large: It would be nice to have a couple of Members at Large with no specific duties. It is nice to have people to fall back on when we get busy, and we always appreciate the diversity of ideas at our meetings! 8. Recording Secretary: Minute taking during executive meetings (around 10 times per year) If your membership lapses before the AGM, you can renew your membership at the door. Lapsed members (membership ended less than one year ago) can renew and resume voting privileges immediately. You can also renew from the Green Party website. Sincerely, Lee Wood, CEO Vancouver Quadra

CUTS TO ENVIRONMENT CANADA ERODE MONTREAL PROTOCOL Hundreds of jobs at Environment Canada are being eliminated. One of the projects slated for review is Canada's monitoring of the Earth's ozone layer. Reported by the Vancouver Sun on September 14, 2011: "Withdrawal of Canada will do major harm to international efforts in Arctic ozone research and such a bold step jeopardizes Canada's reputation as a reliable partner in international programs" "Environment Canada would not comment on the Nature report, or the fate of the ozone network and data archive. Nor would it say how much money will be saved by shutting them down. "The scientists say they are shocked by the planned cuts given the mounting concern about the ozone layer, which protects the planet from the sun's harmful ultraviolet radiation." If the Harper government is hoping to sneak this through without public scrutiny, we must show them that we're watching them very carefully. Please express concern over these shortsighted, reckless cuts, to the Minister of the Environment, to your member of parliament, and to our party's leader: MINISTER OF THE ENVIRONMENT Name : Peter Kent Party: Conservative eMail: Minister@ec.gc.ca MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR VANCOUVER-QUADRA Name : Joyce Murray Party: Liberal eMail: joyce.murray@parl.gc.ca LEADER OF THE GREEN PARTY Name : Elizabeth May Party: Green Party of Canada eMail: elizabeth.may@parl.gc.ca
