ndpA wonderful tribute to Jack from the people of Canada one year after our big breakthrough.May 02, 2012 12:52 pm | Saskatchewan, Palliser
ndpOne year ago Canadians made an historic decision and voted for the NDP in records numbers. As I reflect on that day, I reminded less of the fact that we narrowly lost in Palliser than the sense of hope and optimism that Jack Layton brought to the democratic process. With Thomas Mulcair at the helm, it's time for progressives to band together and show Stephen Harper that we can have a government that is both effective and empatheic, principled and pragmatic. Where we can achieve peace and universal prosperity. I promise to do my part in the next 4 years to make this happen. Who's with me?May 02, 2012 7:47 am | Saskatchewan, Palliser

ndp2012 Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Saskatchewan has been struck and is now accepting submissions from members of the public. This is a great opportunity for citizens of Saskatchewan to voice their opinions as to how our federal electoral boundaries are shaped. I invite everyone to participate and have their voice heard!Mar 28, 2012 2:39 pm | Saskatchewan, Palliser
ndpMental health is not a partisan issue. But it is a matter that needs to be discussed in public. I don't want any family to experience the emotional trauma mine did when my brother Russell took his own life. Our mental health system needs to be treated equally in the health care field, and those struggling with mental illness deserve to be treated with decency and dignity. Let's all work together to create a community where nobody feels alone.Mar 27, 2012 11:08 am | Saskatchewan, Palliser
ndpBack from Toronto with a hoarse voice and a renewed sense of purpose. I'm ready to do my part to help the NDP build a strong Prairie team to take on the divisiveness of Stephen Harper. Take note Mr. Harper - your days as Prime Minister are numbered. The members of the NDP are united, excited and engaged. If you thought you saw an Orange Wave hit Quebec, wait until you see us sweep the west in 2015.Mar 26, 2012 10:33 am | Saskatchewan, Palliser

ndpWhen considering the recent news of a potential takeover bid of Regina-based Viterra, let us all be mindful of why the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool came into existence as a cooperative grain handler in the first place. Without a single desk marketer, and the loss of local grain handling control, Saskatchewan farmers are once again at the behest of global oligarchical interests. What is old is new again.Mar 12, 2012 2:51 pm | Saskatchewan, Palliser

ndpThe recent news concerning the use of election day robotic calls from the 41st Federal election saddens me. I've often said how proud I am to live in a country where differences of opinion can be sorted out in the ballot box rather than through violence. The right to vote freely should and must be unalienable. I know that voters in Palliser riding were subjected to automated diallers on election day with negative messages that suggested, among other things, that I would be raising gasoline prices upwards of 10 cents a litre if elected. If any other voters in Palliser were subjected to similar efforts at suppression, please come forward. I accept the results of May 2 and do not seek to overturn the will of the people. However, if enough citizens can come forward and say "enough is enough" perhaps our Government can tighten our election laws to make sure that ideas, and not dirty tricks, rule the day in our elections.Feb 27, 2012 9:26 am | Saskatchewan, Palliser

ndpI am extremely excited to witness the explosion in membership to the NDP across the country. There are now more members of the NDP than ever before. Although some media talking heads have bemoaned the lack of mean-spiritedness and rancour that exist in the leadership contests of other parties, the hard proof suggests that Canadians want to discuss ideas. To that end, my hat goes off to all of the leadership campaigns for their efforts in growing our movement. Jack would be proud today.Feb 21, 2012 12:17 pm | Saskatchewan, Palliser

ndpThere is absolutely nothing wrong or out of order if an elected Member of Parliament wishes to have his or her infant with them in the chamber, especially when said infant is not interrupting proceedings. I've watched enough CPAC in my day to see MPs sleeping, heckling and otherwise acting like children. A quiet visit from a baby is no worse than the usual behaviour.Feb 08, 2012 11:51 am | Saskatchewan, Palliser
ndpVery proud to have been part of the consultative team working with Niki to draft this bold justice policy. Let's get back to the basics in our legal system: justice, the presumption of innocence, and equality.Feb 07, 2012 10:59 am | Saskatchewan, Palliser

ndpCongrats to Juliana Saxberg, Larry Kowalchuk and the rest of the SK legal team in their sucessful defence of the Constitutional right to strike and collectively bargain. ndpI'm extremely disappointed to learn of the impending closure of the CBC North office in La Ronge. The CBC is a important cultural institution across the country, and in the North in particular. This decision is another in a long line of moves that have been made at the CBC under the Harper regime to weaken our national broadcaster. In my Canada, the CBC is an important institution for culture, national identity and news media. I'm calling on all of you to contact your MP, your local CBC office and push to have this decision reversed.Jan 18, 2012 12:37 pm | Saskatchewan, Palliser
ndpAs most of us on the praries spend these recent cold days inside our homes staying warm, let us all be reminded of the housing crisis in our country and that many thousands of our fellow citizens are either out in the cold tonight, or struggling to find temporary shelter. ndpNiki Ashton - 1 of 4 MPs that passes Chantal Hebert`s test! Chantal Hebert: I put them in groups: Good enough – Ashton. What do I mean by “good enough?” Good enough to stand up to a two-hour television debate in one’s second language against several unfriendly opponents during an election campaign. And good enough to be an effective leader of a Canadian national party with serious aspirations of forming the government. Some might think that bilingualism isn’t a major factor in the current campaign, since, at the most recent count last month, Quebec had fewer than 6,000 of the party’s 95,000 voting members countrywide. But 59 of the present 102 New Democratic members of Parliament are from Quebec. I f the NDP wants to get into power to apply its program, it would be good if the next leader could help those Quebec MPs hold their seats in the next election, by communicating with their constituents.Dec 05, 2011 6:51 pm | Saskatchewan, Palliser
