The story of Canada’s role in Afghanistan is one of service and sacrifice. It is made up of personal commitments, the dedication of families, and a collective desire to make the world a better place. Today I’m asking all Albertans to join us in taking a moment to honour the bravery and perseverance of those who have served in Afghanistan. Whether military or civilian, their incredible work to assist those on the other side of the world is a testament to the selflessness of the Canadian spirit. It is a moment to celebrate as we welcome home our returning soldiers. But we must also remember those that did not make it back. We must honour their sacrifice in our own way, using the freedom they fought for and died protecting. And we must ensure our children learn and understand the stories of Canada and Afghanistan so that they can chart their own futures, free of conflict. Only by building engaged, global citizens, can we both commemorate our heroes and strive to maintain the legacy they have left behind. -Premier Alison Redford More information here: http://alberta.ca/release.cfm?xID=360232CA9D41C-C4C9-AA04-D8FCA830B17C6424

Team Canada’s performance at the Olympic Games a few weeks ago was thrilling to watch, and an inspiration to all Canadians. Now it’s time for our Paralympic athletes to compete on the world stage, where I know they will represent Canada with pride. Forty-nine Canadian athletes have earned their place at the Paralympic Games. Here in Alberta, we’ll be cheering extra loud for the nine Paralympic team members from our great province, and for the contributions of the 23 Alberta coaches and support staff that will be in Sochi. Our athletes are among the best in the world, especially when it comes to the Winter Olympics. Alberta has a strong culture of winter sport, and our government is proud to support our athletes, coaches and facilities by funding all levels of sport, from playground to the podium. Our Paralympic athletes inspire and teach us to focus not on what’s missing, but to focus on what’s there. On behalf of the Alberta Government, congratulations to our Alberta athletes for making Canada’s Paralympic Team and best of luck to all the Canadians at the Games in Sochi. We will be watching proudly and cheering you on. Go Canada! -Premier Alison Redford More information here: http://alberta.ca/release.cfm?xID=3599303A97AE8-0F57-7AF8-89FDE2A59D41D297

Growing our savings accounts for the first time in 25 years was a promise I made to the people of Alberta. We have a legislated plan to do that and it’s working. Under the next phase of the Building Alberta Plan, we will put our savings to work to support a stronger, more diverse economy in the future, ensuring Alberta remains Canada’s economic engine for decades to come. -Premier Alison Redford

Along with all Albertans and Alberta’s Ukrainian community, our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine at this time of unthinkable conflict and uncertainty. We can all relate to the basic need to feel safe in our homes, in our cities and in our country – to live in communities that uphold and support the rights to freedom, democracy and the rule of law that those before us fought and sacrificed their lives for. We stand beside the people of Ukraine. -Premier Alison Redford
