conSAINT JOHN, New Brunswick, May 22, 2012 – Symphony New Brunswick is benefitting from a boost to its fundraising efforts through the Symphony New Brunswick Foundation in the amount of $111,921. This was announced today by Rodney Weston, Member of Parliament (Saint John), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages. The Government of Canada has provided funding for the Symphony New Brunswick Foundation to manage and invest on behalf of Symphony New Brunswick. Funding is provided through the Endowment Incentives component of the Canada Cultural Investment Fund, which encourages Canadians to donate to professional arts organizations. This year, the Government of Canada is providing 81 cents for every dollar donated by the private sector. Since 2006, this program has provided more than $97 million to various endowment funds in Canada, while the private sector has provided $145 million, for a total of over $242 million. Minister James Moore in Dieppe today will also announce funding for arts, culture and official languages in this province. Among the arts recipients is this very theatre, which will receive $55,000 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund. conThe Saint John Seadogs won over the Rimouski Oceanics to repeat as the President’s Cup Champions for the second straight year. The Saint John Seadogs will now be moving on to the Memorial Cup Championship Tournament “The Seadogs have been tremendous Ambassadors who have represented Saint John with such pride and distinction. I want to wish them the "Very Best" and I look forward to celebrating with their many fans!" said Rodney Weston. At the beginning of the series MP Weston and MP Guy Caron entered into a wager. The series winner would determine which MP would be required to rise in the House of Commons, wearing the winning team’s jersey, and congratulate them for winning the President's Cup and offer support as they move on to represent the Quebec Major Junior League at the Memorial Cup Championship Tournament in Shawinigan. conSaint John, New Brunswick, May 11, 2012 — Expectant and new mothers who are homeless will have access to programs and support services, announced Rodney Weston, Member of Parliament for Saint John, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development. “Our government is giving a hand-up to Canadians with housing needs and is helping to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty,” said Rodney Weston. “We are pleased to partner with First Steps Housing Project Inc. Through partnerships like this one, we are providing vulnerable women with the help they need.” Homelessness Partnering Strategy (HPS) funding of $80,000 will be used by First Steps Housing Project Inc. to help women and their babies with shelter and transitional housing. conOn February 6, 2012 Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II marked the 60th anniversary of the accession to the Throne. In celebration of Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee, a commemorative medal has been created. Medals will be presented to worthy recipients in the Electoral District of Saint John. These medals will be in recognition of their service, contributions and achievements. Eligibility Criteria: -Must be a Canadian Citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, but need not necessarily reside in Canada -Must have made a significant contribution to a particular province, territory, region or community within Canada, or an achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada; -Must be alive on February 6th, 2012, the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty's accession to the Throne.
