I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to my campaign team who worked tirelessly on my behalf during the past weeks and months. Although the result is not what I had hoped, having served the people of Saint John-Rothesay for the past seven years as your representative in Ottawa has been an honour and a privilege. I wish MP-elect Wayne Long all the best. Sincerely, Rodney Weston

I’m the only candidate in Saint John-Rothesay with an election platform focused on local issues to move Saint John-Rothesay forward. I have had the opportunity to meet with a number of groups, organizations and individuals to develop an understanding of what is needed and wanted in Saint John-Rothesay. This has led to the following 4 priorities for this coming term if I am re-elected. 1. Energy East pipeline The Conservative Party is the only Party to fully support the construction of the Energy East pipeline. It will bring thousands of good-paying jobs to Saint John-Rothesay and New Brunswick. 2. Saint John Airport modernization Saint John-Rothesay needs competitive air access to other markets. Improving and expanding our runways will allow larger aircraft to land in Saint John, and provide better service for both business and vacation travellers. 3. Community infrastructure I will work to make the Exhibition Park Fieldhouse and Dual Ice Surfaces projects a reality. And I’ll seek federal funds for Rothesay wastewater improvements, UNBSJ Ward Chipman Library retrofit, and affordable housing. 4. Harbourfront improvements Development of Partridge Island and Fort LaTour will celebrate our history and draw more tourists to our riding, and construction of a community harbour will provide fishermen and commercial and recreational boaters a safe place to dock. I delivered on my promises before. You can count on me to deliver again.

A re-elected Conservative government would provide more support to hardworking Canadian families saving for their children’s post-secondary education. Our Conservative Government has consistently cut taxes and put more money back into the pockets of every Canadian family. This includes significant support to help with the costs of a child’s future education, including establishing the Canada Student Grants, reforming the Canada Student Loan Program and providing tax relief for scholarship funding and textbooks. We will build on this record by doubling the federal grant provided to low- and middle-income families through Registered Education Savings Plans. This will ultimately provide as much as $2,200 more per student in matching government support. In contrast to our proven record of support for families, Justin Trudeau and Mulcair’s NDP would raise taxes, reduce families’ take-home pay and ultimately leave less money in their pockets to save for important things like their children’s college or university education. Only our Conservative party will continue to put money back in the pockets of every single Canadian family so that they can spend it on their priorities.

Small businesses represent almost 99% of all businesses in the country and employ nearly 70% of all Canadians working in the private sector. Justin Trudeau disparages small business owners and claims, incredibly, that most small businesses are just schemes for wealthy Canadians to avoid paying taxes – yet another sign of his economic illiteracy.

LOWER TAXES ON SMALL BUSINESSES – 11% to 9% A re-elected Conservative government will lower taxes on job-creating small businesses over the next four years as part of our low-tax, balanced budget program of economic growth and job creation. Small businesses represent almost 99 percent of all businesses in the country and employ nearly 70 percent of all Canadians working in the private sector. Our Conservative Government is on their side and our low-tax plan is helping them succeed and grow. Our low-tax, balanced budget plan has consistently lowered taxes on Canada’s small businesses. Building on this record, a re-elected Conservative Government will deliver on its plan to further lower the small business tax rate from 11 percent to 9 percent over the next four years. This tax cut – the largest tax rate cut for small businesses in more than 25 years – will provide $2.7 billion in tax relief to nearly 700,000 small businesses over this period. Justin Trudeau disparages small business owners and claims, incredibly, that most small businesses are just schemes for wealthy Canadians to avoid paying taxes – yet another sign of his economic illiteracy. Thomas Mulcair purports to support small businesses but the fact is that he’s promising business and payroll tax hikes that will hurt small businesses and undermine job creation.

As part of our low-tax plan for Canadians, a re-elected Conservative government will protect the TFSA and the recent enhancements to it that Canadians are enjoying. Only a few years after the TFSA was introduced in 2009, 10.7 million Canadians had opened accounts, saving thousands of dollars. That number continues to grow. Our Conservative government recently increased the TFSA contribution limit, enabling Canadians to save even more each year and see their savings grow, tax-free, more quickly. Seniors, middle-income and low-income Canadian families have benefitted most from the ability to save through TFSAs. For Justin Trudeau and Thomas Mulcair to threaten to take this option away from Canadians is irresponsible and puts Canadians’ future savings at risk. We trust hardworking Canadians to make their own decisions about what’s in the best interest of their families, and we believe in empowering Canadians with voluntary savings options and low taxes.

A Conservative government will introduce a new, permanent Home Renovation Tax Credit that will help Canadians maintain and increase the value of their homes. For most Canadians, the family home is their biggest financial investment and the place where they raise their children, relax with friends and family, and enjoy their golden years. A permanent Home Renovation Tax Credit will help make it more affordable for Canadians to ensure their homes meet their needs. In 2015 alone, our low-tax plan will return as much as $6,600 dollars back into the hands of each hardworking family in Canada. A new Home Renovation Tax Credit will save Canadians even more. Conservatives believe that Canadians are best-placed to decide how to invest in the needs and priorities of their families. A re-elected Conservative government will continue to implement our low-tax plan to support Canadian families.

Yesterday, we announced new benefits for moms and dads having a baby. A re-elected Conservative government will provide up to 18 months of job protection for new parents and the option to stretch Employment Insurance (EI) benefits over 18 months. Parents who are interested in earning additional income or starting their own business while at home with their babies will also be able to do so without affecting their EI benefits. Our Conservative Party wants to support new moms and dads as they adjust their work and home lives to the new responsibilities of parenthood.

OUR PLAN AIMS TO ADD MORE THAN 700,000 NEW CANADIAN HOMEOWNERS BY 2020 Today, we announced our plan for affordable, responsible homeownership in Canada. We announced that a re-elected Conservative Government would aim to add more than 700,000 new homeowners to Canada’s rolls by 2020. Homeownership provides Canadian families with financial stability and strengthens our communities. Our Conservative government’s low-tax balanced-budget plan will ensure that home ownership is within reach for even more Canadians. A re-elected Conservative Government will build on its record of supporting affordable, responsible homeownership for families by: • Expanding the Home Buyers’ Plan from $25,000 to $35,000 so first-time home buyers can withdraw savings tax-free to make their down payments and reduce their mortgages and interest payments. • Maintaining the 2015 enhancement to Tax-Free Savings Accounts that allow annual contributions of up to $10,000 so Canadians can save and invest more of their hard-earned money tax-free. • Establishing a new permanent Home Renovation Tax Credit for home renovation expenses between $1,000 and $5,000. An aspirational target of more than 700,000 new Canadian homeowners by 2020 is consistent with scenarios set out by the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation and the Canadian Home Builders’ Association. It would raise Canada’s homeownership rate to approximately 72.5 percent. This target would also support residential construction and local job creation. Nearly half a million Canadians are employed directly in the residential construction industry, a sector that largely employs local workers and contracts with small and local businesses. Expenditures in this sector are more than $100 billion per year and account for more than 6% of Canada’s GDP.

Our Conservative government believes in lowering taxes because tax money belongs to Canadians, not the government. We’ve lowered taxes for individuals. We’ve lowered taxes for families. We’ve lowered taxes for seniors. And we’ve lowered them for small businesses. We’ve lowered taxes in every year since taking office. Now, the federal tax burden is at its lowest level in more 50 years. As a result of our Government’s record, Canadian families have up to $6,600 more in their pockets every year – real benefits, real relief, that they can count on. A re-elected Conservative government will continue to keep taxes low, and we’ve committed to lowering them even further – including cutting payroll taxes by more than 20 percent, introducing a new, permanent Home Renovation Tax Credit, and providing significant tax relief to single and widowed seniors. But we will go even further and entrench our low-tax plan in legislation. A re-elected Conservative government will pass legislation imposing a “tax lock” that prohibits increases to federal income taxes and sales taxes, and discretionary, new payroll taxes, over the next four years. This pledge backs our low-tax commitment with the force of the law. Only our Conservative government will keep taxes low, our budget balanced, and protect Canada’s fragile economy for the next four years.

My new 4-in-4 As most of you are aware, I had set in my two previous campaigns the 4 priority areas or projects that I would focus on during the next 4 year term as your Member of Parliament for Saint John-Rothesay. Previous commitments have included – removing the tolls on the Harbour Bridge; funding clean, safe drinking water; funding for the new regional Y; funding for social housing projects, and others. For this campaign I have had the opportunity to meet with a number of groups, organizations and individuals to develop an understanding of what is needed and wanted in Saint John-Rothesay. This has led to the following 4 priorities for this coming term if I am re-elected. 1. Energy East pipeline The Conservative Party is the only Party to fully support the construction of the Energy East pipeline.
