libAnother great day for the Alberta provincial election. I have been out helping two different candidates. Rick Miller in Edmonton-Rutherford and Rick Szostak in Edmonton-Whitemud. I must say great traffic responses while putting up signs on roadways and we are having troubles keeping up with sign requests for people's yards. lib“The Harper Conservatives rode into power on the white horse of accountability, yet these lobbyists were given unfettered access to this government. These men are not just anyone. Both have deep ties to the Harper Conservatives. Rahim Jaffer is the former Conservative Caucus Chair, and he was married to a Conservative cabinet minister. Patrick Glémaud is a former Conservative candidate. But it takes two to tango. The Ministers and officials who were lobbied by these men could have blown the whistle, but they did not. In light of the Lobbying Commissioner’s findings, the Harper Conservatives must tell Canadians what measures are in place to ensure that no other individuals are currently enjoying this kind of privileged access, and that no one will enjoy it in the future.”Dec 12, 2011 4:01 pm | Alberta, Edmonton—Leduc

libI found this comment on the fall of the CWB that I would like to share. "My life changed when the family farm became agribusiness; a way of life became a historical memory and not too fondly thought of. I don't blame farmers for trying to get the best price for their product; i just don't like the idea that i have to undercut my neighbour so that i make a sale and he doesn't. That day is coming and efforts at solidarity in the farming community will be few and far between. The dog-eat-dog method of business will win out and we will all be the poorer for it; more farmers will leave the farms and then who produces the food we eat? Clearly our reliance upon others for our clothing, electronics, durable consumer goods will be extended to food: how will we know that flour hasn't had altering substances added; if lead and cadmium get added to children's toys what will get added to the food? I understand things change all the time; perhaps if we looked at economics rather than ideology (Harper saying he'd rid us of the Wheat Board) then there'd be some wiggle room. Nope, ideology he says and ideology wins. Oh well, guess I can make my flour out of acorns and dried cattails; snare a squirrel or two to add to the meal and maybe boil my boots to make a stew. Sounds delectable." anonymousDec 06, 2011 3:09 pm | Alberta, Edmonton—Leduc

libHere is a quote I read on a comment to an article in the Globe and Mail about it has been admitted that the Conservatives have been cheating again. This readers comments mirrors the frustration that many o us are feeling about Harper's current abuse of power. Quote ------------------------ They are rewarded for their creativity. They treat our institutions like it is a game - whoever can break the rules scores. Whoever can flaunt it publicly and get away with it gets extra points. They consider "fair" a four letter word that has no place in their bullies' playground. The longer McKay can survive without being forced to resign, the stronger he appears. Kind of like Teflon Don. It should be considered treason. There is no more serious crime than undermining the institutions of justice and democracy. -------------- end quote http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/second-reading/bruce-anderson/van-loans-defence-of-dirty-tricks-debases-tories-and-degrades-democracy/article2259338/Dec 03, 2011 8:26 pm | Alberta, Edmonton—Leduc

This means shifting the tax burden away from payrolls and job creation. What is true for individuals is true for companies, too – the Income Tax Act has become a haven for loopholes and exemptions, and it must be fixed.”Nov 09, 2011 12:04 pm | Alberta, Edmonton—Leduc

libRona Ambrose conservatives say they will support the Royal Alberta Museum (RAM), but at the expense of the LRT. I support the museum, but at the expense of public transit? What is our leadership thinking? Do the Alberta conservatives think that public transit is a frill for our city? libCanada now spends more on Business R&D than any other country while we are still at the bottom of the pile for developed countries with respect to basic research. Our Government can still not figure why Canada fairs poorly in translating research (i.e. getting new products to market).
