a US perspective but the statement that we 'must get all private finance out of elections' is true anywhere. this is one of the first electoral reforms we need to push - then proportional representation

other countries are watching what's happening in Attawaspikat. watching and wondering what the heck Canada is doing (or not doing). sort of like the climate change inaction

if I was just a little more cynical, I'd think that INAC was purposely underfunding reserves to force First Natons off the land. I might also think DFO is hoping for the demise of wild salmon to make way for off-shore drilling. I'm fighting that cynicism and believe it can be changed and fixed.

some things to think about. I know some band members are calling for the audit - but it's all there already. 100+ years of failed policy - I think it's time to change.

Mr. Duncan - were you hoping no one would notice Attawaspikat? Well until the opposition MP and APTN stepped up, we didn't. But there are similar situations all across the country and close or in your riding too and I want you to stop the paternalistic bs and treat First Nations as the nations they are in our constitution!

PM Harper has countered outrage regarding Attiwaspikat that the feds have sent $50,000 per person there so they'll look into why it's not making things better. What? That amount must cover everything the community needs - education, health, all other services, infrastructure, housing. I'm betting off-reserve costs per citizen are a heck of a lot more than that. Just start with roads - $1 million per km. It's time to stop blaming First Nations for our broken promises, discrimination and locking them out of opportunity.
