This will be my last post on this page. Congratulations to Elizabeth May and her team for a stunning victory in Saanich - Gulf Islands. Congratulations to Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party. We will be watching carefully to see if they walk the talk. Congratulations to Jamie Schmale and his team locally. I hope he remembers that the biggest cheer for any of the candidates at the all-candidates debates was when I said "It's time to unmuzzle our scientists and let them tell us what's really going on loud and clear". His constituents want to hear what scientists have been trying to tell us for a decade. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of you who voted for the Green Party yesterday. To my team - there were 48 of us locally who helped in some way - thanks for the enthusiasm and time you gave to the cause. I quite literally could not have done it without you. I have heard of other Green Party candidates who had as few as two volunteers. Many of you are old friends, and many others have become really good new friends. There are so many great people I have come to know through this process - that's a big takeaway for me. Thanks very much as well to all of you who donated financially to our campaign, from within and outside the riding. Although we had a lot less money than the other parties locally, we had enough to feel like we were "in the game" here. Thanks to my wife Susan who not only kept working to pay our bills while I was obsessed by the campaign, she was our Official Agent and main compliance person, while also holding things together on the homefront. I am a lucky guy. It is she who has the most work to do post-campaign filing our expenses and reports. My turn to step up on the homefront. I am very pleased to have been part of the very first carbon neutral political campaign this riding has ever experienced. We planted 500 saplings, I distributed 1,950 red oak acorns and Ric Christie refurbished 400 old signs for us, keeping them out of the landfill. To the 200+ people who have a Green Party sign on their lawn, there are 20 of us engaged in retrieving them over the next couple of days. If your lawn sign is still in your lawn by Friday, please pull it out and call 705-927-6688 for one of us to come and get it... and thank you for showing your support for the Green Party. And thank you once again to all our supporters. Keep the faith.

I am so sorry about tonight's results. You have represented the party and the municipality well. People now know who you are, they will remember. I think the election today was about change and Ms. May said it well; people voted to change the face of parliament this time, next time they will be able to vote the way they feel called to.

We are the only party in HKLB to run a carbon neutral campaign. We planted 500 saplings and distributed 1,950 red oak acorns. We used an Electric Vehicle (powered by Bullfrog Power) and a bicycle when we could. We walked the talk. Other parties may talk about the environment..... we mean it!

That if you only switch your vote the outcome of the election might change. In 2011 precisely zero ridings were close enough for that logic to be true.".....

From the Globe & Mail on Mark Carney, head of the Bank of England: "If companies were honest about the true cost of stopping the planet from further warming, the vast majority of the world’s oil, gas and coal would never be dug out of the ground. It would be “stranded,” he warned in a speech Tuesday in London, rendering the resources worthless unless science figures out an economic way to capture the resulting carbon emissions."

Green Leader Elizabeth May (Saanich-Gulf Islands) met with Canadian musician Neil Young following his concert last night at Vancouver's Rogers Arena. Young announced yesterday he would donate $100,000 from the proceeds of Monday night’s concert to the David Suzuki Foundation’s Blue Dot movement. The Blue Dot movement aims at amending Canada’s Constitution to enshrine environmental rights. “Environmental Rights are also human rights and should be enshrined in federal law,” said former Environmental Commissioner of Ontario and Green Party Candidate (Guelph) Gord Miller. “Ontario and Quebec already do so at the provincial level and the Green Party will work to ensure all Canadians' environmental rights are protected.” “The Green Party of Canada supports Neil’s call to enshrine environmental rights in the Constitution. Our candidates are encouraged to get municipal candidates to also endorse Blue Dot. Neil Young is a long standing environmentalist and his contribution to the environmental cause in Canada and abroad is invaluable,” said May.
