ontAndrea HorwathThanks to Equal Voice Toronto for honouring me last week with the EVE Award, recognizing Women in Public Life. I'm very grateful to be chosen this year. I had the opportunity to say a few words at the awards about the challenges we faced last week, and the challenges women face in politics, but also about my own hope, optimism and vision for a better province. Please watch and share. Thank you.Apr 30, 2012 12:23 pm | Ontario, Algoma—Manitoulin—Kapuskasing

Scott TannasA transformed Senate is important for Canada’s future. We needs an upper house that provides independent, sober & effective 2nd thought, which gives voice to regions outside Central Canada, & that reaffirms democratic legitimacy.Jan 20, 2012 11:01 am | Alberta,

Scott Tannas“Scott is the essence of what we all want in our elected representatives. He’s smart and he’s honest and he’s thoughtful. He cares (and listens to) what people are thinking about–what inspires them and what makes them worry. He’s a gutsy entrepreneur, a builder, always thinking ‘What can I create and add to my community?’ It’s never about ‘what’s in it for me’.
I’ve worked beside Scott for 10 years and I’ve seen him build a company, inspire his people to be better and with his wife Taryn, raise a remarkable family.
Albertans would be proud to have him leading us in the Canadian Senate.”

ontAndrea HorwathLeader +Andrea Horwath joined with newly elected MPP Michael Mantha (Algoma Manitoulin) to announce our plans to present a private member’s bill to take HST off home heating. Mantha: "Families in my riding, and across Ontario, are finding it hard to make ends meet. Energy costs are climbing fast enough without adding an unfair tax. Taking the HST off home heating will make life more affordable and put more money into household budgets and the local economy.”
Meanwhile, McGuinty's HST deal with Harper will soon see Ontario’s largest corporations writing off entertainment and other expenses, a move that will cost the treasury over $1 billion a year.Nov 14, 2011 11:05 am | Ontario, Algoma—Manitoulin—Kapuskasing - MPP

ontAndrea HorwathToday I announced my 5 point action plan for my first 100 days as Premier. I will put people first!
Jobs first – Lower taxes for small business and companies that invest in jobs and ensure public money and natural resources aren’t sent out of Ontario when they can create jobs here.
Affordability – Take the HST off daily essentials like hydro and home heating and start removing it from gas, freeze post-secondary tuition and childcare fees, and set a weekly cap gas prices.
Strengthen healthcare – Cutting emergency room waits by eliminating wait list for home care and acute long term care and putting a cap on hospital CEO salaries.
Affordable green choices – Rewarding green efforts with tax credits of up to $5000 to homeowners who retrofit their homes and partner with Cities to freeze transit fares and improve service.
Live within our means – Take action to balance the budget by 2017-18 by cutting consultants and scrapping corporate tax giveaways.
