Nickel Belt residents, I need your help. I enjoy going to all the community events but I sometimes hear about an event AFTER it happened, given the size of the riding, and so many communites. I need local folk in each community big or small to let me know about the spaghetti suppers, the fundraisers for good causes, the meetings called for special concerns, etc. I am hoping to identify one person in each community who will let my staff know about these events on a regular basis. You may be the person or know the person who reads all those bulletin boards in the community. Call my riding office with suggestions or email claude.gravelle.a1@parl.gc.ca and we will contact them to see if they are interested

I am off to join 250 Steelworkers attending a forum here to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Elliot Lake Miners' Strike. That strike for improved health and safety conditions resulted in the Ontario (Ham) Royal Commission and many positive changes including the inclusion of joint health and safety committees in legislation and finally the Occupational Health and Safety Act in 1978. As we see with recent tragedies, there is much more work to do. I will be speaking on a panel on the federal Westray law and its lack of enforcement in Canada

It is very encouraging to have Anne McGrath as the new NDP party director. This is an interesting article on Anne, her thoughts on Thomas Mulcair and much more. http://globalnews.ca/news/1269514/lunch-with-anne-mcgrath-on-tom-mulcairs-humour-trudeaus-inconsistencies-and-conservative-scandal/

With the House of Commons in recess for MP work in the riding, I expect to get to several community events. It's been a good start with last night's Evening in Paris fundraiser for West Nipissing Community Living and today's always popular Rayside Balfour Hockey Tournament

I am just shocked at the death of Councillor Fabio Belli who worked hard for the community and was a young man with young family. I am thinking today of him, his family and friends who will miss him greatly
